Pocket clipped knives

Front left: keys, streamlight microstream

Front right: fisher space pen, Wenger Esquire (recently relocated to watch pocket), folder

Back left: phone

Back right: wallet

I use my folder, Esquire, pen, and light very frequently at work. Had to adopt a system to keep each convenient. This works beautifully.

To clarify, I have no concern scraping my keys and knife...it's the back of my hand that gets scraped trying to get to my keys. I wear mainly jeans..( I don't own and wouldn't own skinny jeans) or carharts or dickies pants. Left front is wallet and phone if jeans...and Fitbit..right front is keys small folder and change. Back pockets are receipts etc. sitting down a lot driving and stuff in my back pockets hurts after a while. Probably need a smaller knife. Carrying a PM2 today.

I have a older paramilitary, and I don't carry it much because it takes up a lot of room in my pocket and I jam my knuckels on the corner of the blade. It would carry better as a high ride tip up carry, but that's not a choice on that model. Ultimately, a slimmer knife is the answer. My two most carried clip knives are both cheap and small (a Gerber knock off of a small CRKT M16 - the first flipper I ever owned must be 15 years old now) and a CRKT Swindle. I don't think the clip on the swindle works all that well, but it's still slim and doesn't get in my way when I'm getting into my pocket. I keep meaning to pick up an Boker Urban Trapper or a Case Slim Trapperlock but I find that I carry clip knives less and less these days.

I'm an oddball, and have rigid rules on somethings.

Left front pocket: phone.
Right front pocket:
Car key fob, knife (tip up clipped), wallet.
I carry a small bag around everywhere with my diabetes supplies, and I keep my house/etc keys in it.

Lost my Fenix LD02 which went in the left front. I've got a little copper Olight I3E EOS now, keep it on a thin lanyard around my neck.

Keys attached to the belt loop like a normal person...
Not normal. Just sayin. :)

Never had this problem. My millie is a bit pocket filling but I’ve never had a problem. In the pocket with my clipped knife is a flashlight that I use constantly at work, car keys, pen I also use multiple times a day, a lighter and today I had some chapstick in there. Maybe you should try different pants?

Left front - keys/SAK
Right front - large folder
Right rear - wallet
Left rear - phone
Fixed blade on belt when I can carry one

Works for me.

I’ve seen a lot of folks on here complain about a chunky, heavy knife clipped in the pocket, yet I see some of you carry that brick of a cell phone or your wallet in your front pocket? Lol

I doubt my phone would even fit in my front pocket and I know my wallet wouldn’t.

Most pants have 4 pockets, so, with my standard 4-piece carry (phone, knife, wallet, and keys), they each get their own pocket.

I carry a ultra-slim wallet in my front left, knife in my front right, phone in my back right, and keys in my back left. It works very well for me, and there’s no pocket-digging or items hitting each other.

I like to keep things minimal with my keys. I carry the key-fob to whichever vehicle I'm driving in my left front pocket. My house key stays on the strap of my day-pack, with one of those retractable cord keychains so it never has to be removed, just extended from the pack on shoulder to lock/unlock the door. My day-pack goes with me whenever I leave the house and stays in my vehicle. I keep other important keys in a pouch in the pack.

Also, I almost exclusively wear either Vertx Delta or Tru-Spec 24/7 pants on a daily basis (I even had some of the latter made into shorts by a local seamstress). The best feature of both of these pants is that they have small "knife" pockets located behind each front pocket. While these pockets are too small for most of my knives, they are perfect for my Swisstool and Surefire Aviator which I carry daily. This really helps me to carry these items without my pockets being overloaded, and now that I'm used to it it's a feature I can't do without in daily wear pants. The only thing I carry in my right front pocket (other than the knife clipped in obviously) is a leather money clip/card holder. With the above pants I can easily reach in and grab the money clip with no hindrance from the knife.

Now that everyone's told you which pockets to put your keys, knife and wallet in, let me offer an alternative suggestion.

I carry my pistol and my knife inside the waistband. Like you, I've been carrying my knife like that for the past 20 years or so (and it's why I'm always praising tip down carry). I carry my gun at the 10 o'clock appendix (left side) position, and the knife at 2 o'clock appendix position (right side). Benefits- pistol is easy to reach, particularly while strapped in your vehicle, using your right hand for a crossdraw, and the knife is easily reached anytime with your right hand. This assumes you're right handed like me and 90% of the rest of us.

Not sure if this would work for you, but you might want to give it some thought. Other benefits are 1) you don't have to worry about what pants you're wearing or how many pockets you have, and 2) it won't interfere with accessing your keys.

knife clipped RFP
car keys - proximity key - goes in the same pocket, and only rarely have to take them out.

I keep my front right pocket as dedicated to my clip-knife, or if I am carrying something else in that pocket, I use a different pocket for the knife.

I have been wearing Duluth Trading firehose flex cargo pants lately - they have lots of pockets, the velcro holds up well, the pockets are deep, and they are designed as if someone actually WORE them to determine if the design elements were worthy.

So - to answer your question - yes, I keep only a knife in that pocket when carrying a clip-knife.

I'll second the Duluth Firehose pants, the flex ones or otherwise. I have both weights for different weather and different jobs and the pockets are easily large enough that unless you've got something like a Cold Steel 4-Max clipped key access is easy and painless. And they have easily enough pockets that you could also just store your keys in a different one.

Phone in shirt or jacket pocket, knife and flashlight in front right pants, wallet left rear,keys/change misc front left.

I carry my manix 2 in my front right, everything else is in backpack in summer and/or coat in winter

I have for over 20 years carried a Benchmade or spyderco in my waistband...appendix carry. Very comfortable. Now that I have started carrying my handgun in that position, I have tried clipping my knife in my front pocket like I see everyone do. It carries well, but now I can’t get to my keys without scraping the back of my hand up on my knife. How do you people do this? Nothing in your pocket?

Yup, basically nothing in that pocket that's hard. May have some cash, biz cards, or a doggie bag in that pocket, but nothing hard like keys, etc. Balancing all the chit we wanna carry vs need to carry is always a challenge. Or, try a small fixed blade IWB cross draw position.

Belt loop all the way. When I worked in the corporate world I stuck em in the briefcase.

I'm considering a belt pouch for the same reason.

My pants fit properly (meaning - not skinny jeans), and I have the same issue fitting my hand in my pocket with a large folder clipped in. I can do it, but it's not comfortable, and I'm always a bit nervous that as I pull my wallet out I'm going to accidentally pop my knife out and send it tumbling. My RAT 2 is usually slim enough, but something like my Ace Biblio is a little wide. Plus, I'm always squatting, crawling under/climbing over/squeezing between stuff at home and work, and there's been more than one occasion where I've had my folder really dig into my hip or feel like it was going to slip out.

I'm thinking a belt pouch will remedy a lot of this. Plus, with a pouch I can slip my light and maybe a pen into as well, it'll free up some pocket space and keep things organized.
