pocket clips vs. automobiles

My truck isn't three months old yet, and I tore the vinyl on the center console this afternoon because of my pocket clip. I chipped and scratched paint on my last pickup because of clips, and I'm about to switch to traditionals and saks because I pay a hell of a lot more for my auto than I do my knives. I was also looking at pocket sheaths for small fixed blades before this happened, all the more incentive.

The speed/convenience is nice, but not when it screws up my other property, or if I have to change my wardrobe to prevent this.

Also remember that they don't make cars like they used to!

I've seen the interiors of many well known quality brands and they look flash but the quality of the materials and longetivity is quite frankly poor.

Furthermore, to save cost of production you do know that car manufacturers are putting much less paint thickness than they used to. That means they are very vunerable to scratches etc.

I own a BMW and Mercedes (about 10 years old) and have had no problem with the interior when storing any object (possibly becuase of the ruberrised compartment under the stereo). Furthermore, my Merc has been scratched a number of times intentionally and unintentionally by keys and clips. Because of the quality and depth of the paint and lacqure every scratch was removed by using some solutions.

Is it the knife or is it the truck I wonder?

I'm a lefty so i don't have to worry about anything but getting in or out.

that said, the plastic piece covering the seatbelt tensioner on the drivers side is all marked up with light scratches from my clips. I don't really care, as that can be buffed out and i'd rather have some scratches that not carry a knife or have to switch to something clipless.

I used to love the idea of a knife clipped into my pocket until I found that it catches on everything and scratches furniture and car interiors. I managed to lose two knives (one of them a nice Benchmade). All knives I carry now ride inside the pocket or in a sheath. A knife clipped in your front pocket also attracts the attention of most police officers and pickpockets. Concealed carry makes more sense than convenience to me. Of course I'm just a crotchety old man.
