Pocket Destroyers

I carried about 80 or so different knives and never had a problem with any of the clips.....Their were few that looked ugly but none that ripped my jeans or were so uncomfortable i couldnt handle carry them

Kershaw Blur.

The grippy inserts + sharp edged thumb studs really do a number on khakis. :(

Blur (own 2) feels like sandpaper but is still harmless compared to the CRKT Triumph folder. You really have to feel it or you wouldn't believe it. Its rougher than the roughest sandpaper.
I like this knife for how it's surface profile and texture bite into my skin. Feels super secure! But can see how its pant eating abilities might scare lots of folks away. Probably the reason they discontinued it.

Btw.
Anybody wearing Taclite shorts or pants? They have reinforced pocket rims for guys who like to carry knives.

I have never used the clip on any of my knives choosing instead to put in my pocket. After working for a company that had ALL techs wrap shop towels around their belt buckles if a belt was worn and around suspender attachments. and never use the clips on knives, if you scratch a customers car you are responsible for paint repair to their car. This was a tool rental shop, not a car dealership.

My BenchMade 755 MPR. I tried sandpaper and electrician's black tape. I gave up. Nice M390 blade, but the darned thing sits in a box; never will get used. I'd throw it out if it wasn't a gift from one of my kids...and I hinted around until I got it.... :)
Murphy's Law in Action.

Emersons and especially the jungle versions destroy pocket material. Cold steel voyager and recon 1....might actually take the crown for Pocket destruction. Last my kershaw auto the rogue with that grip tape nonsense.

I wear 5.11 Taclite Pro pants, and have had no issues with any of my pockets getting torn... And I have owned in order some of the "worst offenders" listed here -Cold steel recon 1, benchmade triage, and Strider SNG DGG. My pants still look brand new! I also carry every day. Perhaps it isn't the knives faults, nor the clips... but the pants? ;)

Can't wear my commando pants to work...so maybe? Might also be you don't need to knife fight many while wearing your commando pants ......so not much use for that knife...and no pocket damage?:)

I can't believe that nobody mentioned the Benchmade 520. This is the original classic pocket shredder.

I have no pants with destroyed pockets from carrying clipped knives. Mostly wear Levi"s. Maybe they're tougher than the average jeans? Mainly carry Spyderco Military's on both sides. Occasionally carry one of the large Cold Steel Espada's. Sometimes my two Kershaw JYD's. No destroyed, or even frayed pockets to date.

I actually build trails in the mountains of Washington state for a living, and probably use my knives more than 90% of the users on this site. I wear 5.11s because they are tough, not full cotton, light and comfortable. Not because they are mall ninja or tacticool.

My Cold Steel folders are hard on pants, but my work pants (which take 90% of the abuse) are Riggs ripstop cargos and they have a leather patch that wears really well right where I clip my knife. I have knives with less aggressive clips for my "after hours" pants. This gives me an excuse to have multiples. I agree with the earlier post that I'd rather have some premature wear on my pants than have a loose clip and potentially loose a knife. There are a couple benchmades out there somewhere that didn't stay clipped to my pocket :-(

+1 on the Strider Sng Gunner Grips. Strong clip with very abrasive scales. On the positive side, I feel pretty confident the knife will not fall out of my pocket.

Also any waved knives. I would not practice waving unless it was an old pair of cargo pants or something.

Agree with this. When I buy a knife, if the clip is not REAL TIGHT, I take it off and bend it until it is REAL TIGHT. I want to hear the clip snap when it comes out of my pockets. Re-install with blue Loctite. Never lost a knife yet!
