Pocket knife for 8 year old boy

The reasons I suggested the Spyderco Blue Ambitious or Persistence are:
1.) I think a liner lock is a good starting lock because it's simple and you can close it without putting your fingers in the way if you close it two handed or have a certain technique. Until you think he could use the right technique to unlock and close it one handed safely, teach him how with two hands.
2.) G-10 is a good grippy material and he will be able to have a nice firm grip without worrying too much about slipping.
3.) Blue is a nice color for a boy and kids just love colors on just about anything. Plain black can be boring. Also if he drops his little blue knife, he'll likely be able to spot it easier due to the color.
4.) A pocket clip makes it easy to clip in his pocket and stay put if you guys choose to do it that way. It probably won't unclip itself but could find itself falling out of a jacket pocket.
Or take the clip off and let it sit in the bottom of his jeans pocket.
5.) The cheaper steel actually holds a good edge and is extremely easy to sharpen back up.
6.) The kind of stocky build of the knife can stand up to a good amount of use and abuse, it will be his faithful companion no matter what he does to it lol.

Some notes:
Show him how to properly open and close the knife. How to do the lock with two hands first. If you think he'd do it great one handed show him that too.
Let him carry and use it around you at first before he goes running around with it, at least until you're not as scared or worried about him hurting himself.
Maybe show him how to do a little sharpening, he'll think it's cool and will like maintaining HIS knife.
Let him store it with your knives. That way you know where it is and know it's safe and he'll know it's safe and think it's cool that he gets to store his with dads.

Kids are awesome and every kid needs a good pocket knife. They just need a good teacher too and what better teacher than dad? =]

My daughter started off with a Spyderco Byrd Crow (and now wants an upgrade :) ) and my son started with a Spyderco Delica. Both are reliably built, reasonably priced, and have good locks. Give them a look if you're still undecided.

How about the Ontario rat 1. They have great reviews and you can get them for about $30.

SMATCHET!!!!!!
No, but really a Spyderco ladybug salt? 2 inch blade, locks, and it won't rust on you

I have thought about this for a while. I first thought of the Victorinox when I started reading your question. I now see that you have already given them two Saks. I would suggest a classic Case brand knife. It is hard to beat the Case quality and the long history of these knives being handed down from generation to generation. This would be my first pick for my child. I hope this helps with the decision.

My kids started with SAKs. Then they each got a Kershaw, one a Scallion, one a Blur, and one a Shallot. I taught them how to use them, and to keep them sharp. A dull knife is very dangerous as it tends to make the operator force cuts, and slip, causing bad accidents.
