Pocket knife weight maximum

I think I heard about that once...
Paper money is too easy to spend. Besides, my goal is to have enough to do this
I keep biting coins. Apparently they’re more valuable once theyre bit. My dentist loves me. Until I pour his copay on the counter.

I don’t have a particular weight as much as I have been trending towards smaller knives currently I go back and forth between a Buck 501 and a Spyderco Dragonfly. That Dragonfly is one lightweight knife! The Buck is pretty light too.

I’ve actually thought about this earlier today. I tend to carry slim and relatively lightweight knives. For me a good EDC folder clips to my pocket and disappears until I need it. The catch is when I do need it, it has to be “enough knife” to cut whatever it is I’m trying to cut and take some abuse if needed. It’s a balance.

There have been plenty of knives I’ve wanted to like, but after a few days of carrying them they were just too damn heavy or bulky in my pocket. The BM Adamas being a great example. Same with the PM2. I refuse to pocket carry my much loved buck 110.

I never cared too much about pocket knife weight until I bought and started carrying my Leatherman Arc. Now THAT thing is heavy and bulky. I just keep it in its pouch and put it on my belt which makes it pretty nice to carry. Definitely had a bad time when I pocket carried it unpouched with its pocketclip.

I have a Spyderco Manix 2 XL that I don't have any problem carrying- 5 ounces. I also pocket carry a Leatherman Charge- 8.9 ounce and sometimes a Fenix PD36R- 5.75 ounce. I once bought a ZT 0200 at 7.9 ounce and I thought that was too big and heavy for me. So my limit is around 6 ounces.

I’ve never seen anyone chop into a coconut with a 3oz knife but I’d like to watch them try 😉
A wiser man than I once said that a 5 ounce bird cannot carry a 3 pound coconut.

I wear shorts all the time, so lighter is better for me. The Bugout is great at less than 2 ounces.

And no, chopping into anything with it is definitely out.

A full size marauder is definitely not a one size fits all type knife. On a day I have that one on me I also have a spyderco mcbee because it’s just not a good tool for most tasks. It is however full on bad ass and fun to play with. 😂

In the winter, I don't care, I have coat pockets, bags, cargo pants pockets.. my heaviest folders are all about five ounces, it's fine. In the summer though I mostly carry small Spyderco FRN stuff or maybe the small Sebenza max.

Most of my knives are 3.5 or lighter.
I have 2 that are in the 8oz and they seem to be too much. Seems to pull your pants down which is a real bother.
I’m going to go with 6oz or lighter for edc.

PM2 is the max.
I don't carry loose in the pocket, wouldn't want anyone to mistake the tiny SAK Classic bump for, uh, anything else.

I typically carry heavier knives in jeans and lighter in shorts. In many ways, my edc is seasonal. I often buy a large and small of some of my favorites for this purpose.

Like many, I prefer a lighter and thinner carry as a rule of thumb. For multi tools, I can't pocket carry a leatherman wave, though a free P2 is doable.

I do enjoy days where I just toss a medium stockman in my pocket and go about my day. Belt carry, it doesn't really matter. I habitually carry a full size Leatherman or Gerber multi tool on my belt, and short of it bothering me to sit against my kidney on long car trips, I routinely forget it's there.

Funny, I stopped carrying a leatherman on me and started carring a stockman. The leatherman is still handy though.

T is for tons, I reckon? :)
Pretty stout for sure. I’ve actually been on a hinderer kick lately but the .26 blade stock on my Medfords makes me chuckle every time I flip one open. An experience every knife enthusiast should behold.

I pocket carry a 110. Id rather a thicker, balanced folder over thinner and lighter one. My $.02

I carry from 1.6 to 6 ounces depending on the day and what I’m wearing. My Reate Torrent weighs 6+, and comes out on Jean days, my SOG Ultra XR weighs sub-2 and comes out on hikes longer than 12 miles. Everything else is somewhere in the middle and gets carried in whatever.

I’m currently in pajama pants carrying a CKF Persian that weighs 5.1… go figure.

I just weighed things and my heaviest is 3.5oz. I always prefer light and slim and live in a warm climate where lighter weight shorts are the norm, so heavy knives really don't work for me. I dislike pocket bulk in general. I have about 10 knives I rotate through for EDC and they range from 1.7 - 3.5oz.
