got a question got a daughter 7 years old kind of likes knives where would be a good start for her any suggestions

Hi squiggi,I think a small Victorinox army knife would be a good choice, they even make a model just for children,I believe it's simply called my first Victorinox, last I checked they had them ad Smokeymountainknifeworks.

Very inexpensive, but of good quality, with the tip of the blade rounded off for added saftey.

Best of luck,
LOTO

thanks lotto being in the military i tend to like tactial blades and i would like to stear har in the right direction just to see what she likes and to get her in the hobby

i have read i few articals on the hobbie and starting kids i just looking for the right way to turn on the subject

Yep, there's a beginner's Victorinox, not to be confused with the plastic toy SAK.

There's also a children's Opinel model with a rounded tip. I bought one for my boy, along with one of the youth model Mora knives that has full guard. He's only one year old, so they're put away out of reach until he's an appropriate age.

Your welcome, I got my first knife at 5 years old,a small pen knife,I think a simple folder is the best choice for a kid's first blade,,,I'd wait another year or so before giving her a kabar or benchmade jk:D

At age 7 I doubt my boy will be ready to actually use a knife. But he'll have his own to admire (with supervision) anyway.

My first knife, an Old Timer 34OT, was given to me by my Grandpa when I was about seven. Mom kept it put away but let me look at it sometimes. I was probably 8-10 when it was actually 'given' to me when I needed it for Scouts.

Every kid is different with being mature and responsible, and having the physical coordination for using tools. But even if a child is too young to use a tool, there's no time that's too early to begin admiring or accumulating.

Good Luck with your decision,
-Bob

thanks bob w at least there are a few out there who understand
squiggi,I totally understand, but was merely commenting on your daughters age, especially when I heard thew word tactical....
No one here , would want to hear any bad news due to any knife type misfotuneate incident.God forebid
I waited a while with my Son,and he respects the sharp knives he has, because at the age he was brought into it,he could understand quite better
My God Daughter, had a heck of an attitude on the pocket knives she once thought she loved, when her SAK bit her good

Squiggi - Don't worry about her age but about her maturity level. I don't now how old I was when I got my first knife but I can tell you that for my eighth birthday my parents got me a switchblade.

thanks kamkazmoto ill keep that in mind i dont think ill get her a switchblade im looking for something a little smaller

squiggi...
I'll approve of the knife (reluctantly), IF, and ONLY IF, you promise to get her
a dictionary, and some grammar lessons.
She's going to need a GOOD mentor.

Take Care,
JGarth ..... My TOP 10 is filling up fast.

thanks jgarth i know my grammar sucks dont worry she is all ready better than me in that dept ha ha
