pocket knife

I got my son a My First Victorinox last year at age 7. He cut himself after a few minutes using it, but nothing serious. I told him it would likely happen and he proudly showed me like it was a rite of passage:D . I decided to get him a Wenger Traveller this year with a few more tools and he's still under supervision when using the main blade. That said, he is allowed to use the other tools without supervision. I agree with others in that it comes down to maturity more than age. I'd probably look for one of the Junior Wengers as one has a locking main blade.
Good luck.

Here's a nice little fixed blade made in Finland for young children:

It has a blunt tip but a sharp edge. And i twon't fold on her fingers. Looks cool too.

I don't think there's a magic are when a kid is ready for a knife. I got my first real knife at 10, and I waited until my son was 10. So 10 works for me. But a very responsible 7 year old with a patient father might be ready for a knife too.
