I think I pat my pocket (to check that my knife is there) 100 x's per day... And it always is, so I don't know why I do it...
I can't be the only one.. how many of you guys do the same?

Yup. Not quite that often, but I'll slap the pockets before I leave the house to make sure I have knife, wallet, phone and keys.

I do it. I've lost a couple and almost lost another a few times, so now I check every so often.

Yep, I do a slap gear check several times a day. I *always* check before I lock my house or car.

I normally check after I have been sitting a while, just in case something wiggled free.

Leaving house, car.... yup. Looking for everything I keep in my pockets to make sure I didn't forget anything.

I carry a 5" bladed folder so I definitely don't need to pat my pocket to know it's there.

Not that much but I do check on the way out the door and after sitting for a while.

All that checking you do to reassure yourself is fine... until the day that it is not there.

And that day will come.... dun DUN DUUNNN!!

;)

I agree. And it sucks when i forget my knife or some other edc item inside the house and its raining or cold out! But, i always go back. Im a slave to my habit of the pocket pat

On the way out of places, and whenever I stand up. It's really common with people who have ADD and don't even carry much, let alone someone like me with ADD and two knives, two phones, a lighter, pen, wallet to worry about.

Daily, though not excessively. It's saved my day on several occasions, especially when I'm leaving somewhere that's not my home. I may have taken my knife out to play with it at my desk at work, or in the lab, or even at someone else's house, in the kitchen. After a couple losses, there are some things that just make sense.

Another thing I don't ever do anymore. I will not carry a knife loose in pants pockets, that are not jeans. I even hesitate to carry one clipped to a pair of thin slacks.

Past mistakes make indelible marks on our psyche, and lead to preventative compulsive habits. Thank God for that. Just wish it didn't require the losses I've had...

The funniest part about the pocket pat/slap was that it had gotten to the point of being completely subconscious until my fiancée brought it up a few months ago.

I think I notice clip-carriers tending to feel their pants more often than those who carry in the pocket. I'd think clip carrying leads to more losses but maybe not....

I do it quite a lot, but I started doing it with my wallet first. I've lost wallets before.

I do it a couple times a day. And those are just the times I'm aware of. I'm sure I do it much more but don't even think about it. The pocket pat is a sort of nervous twitch one acquires when one starts carrying pocket knives. :D

Definitely lots more when a Sebenza is in my pocket...
When I got my first Sebenza I checked regularly, if I didn't already have it in my hand. I still check before going out the door at home or when getting out of a vehicle. I've only lost one knife with a clip. That was at work and I knew the tension of the clip needed adjusting but had neglected to.

I lost my Delica when I was out on the golf course caddying, probably from the bag knocking the clip off. Never lost anything in the pocket though.

My experience has been that pocket clips are a god way to have a knife come loose. I use pocket carry with a lanyard on my knife or a belt sheath.

I also carry in pocket with the knife clipped to a lanyard, prefer not to show my knife as I work in a retail setting. I end up reaching into my pocket and fondling the knife while waiting in a line etc. People must think I'm playing pocket pool with myself.
