Pocket Slips/Sheaths

I carry several at a time, the Case Stockman Purple Haze is kinda large for the pocket so I made a belt sheath for it, for my SAK black Alox Pioneer a soft slip sheath to protect the Alox from losing it's nice look ;)

edited to add, those ones Primble posted up from PocketKnives4Sale with the soft hair insides, I think they would cradle even the most expensive knife comfortably and not mar any surface on the knife, plus they look great ;)
Where my sheaths are not for safe queens and you can get some rub marks due to the tight fitting sheath as it relies on friction fit and I wouldn't recommend it for those higher dollar carries.

I like the looks of that slip sheath...very nice!

Thanks, that one isn't the slip sheath, the slip sheath is just soft elkskin that the SAK Pioneer rests inside, almost like a finger of a glove that's been cut off, but tighter and softer ;)

That one is my vertical belt sheath for my large Case Stockman Purple Haze model, very cool knife, I did some work on the spey blade as well as the sheepsfoot, making the sheepsfoot to fall further into the handle frame so now the spine of the sheepsfoot and main blade are even, much handier to use as before it was pretty high, like a sail.

I'm not wearing skinny jeans or anything like that [emoji16]

It fits snugly in regular jeans.

To clarify things a bit: I'm talking about the coin pocket 2Dead is referring to.

Pics (in pocket), or it didn't happen.

Looks kinda neat. Does it have to be carefully put in? Does it shift around when you remove one or both knives?

I mix it up mostly a belt sheath around the farm but often a pocket pouch for going to town these are just a few I have made up - nothing fancy ... but do the job.

Like the OP when I started getting into better & better knives I was paranoid about a knife slipping out of my pocket if I was sitting in a low slung seat.
(How many of us hasn't had to fish a knife out from the back of the couch??)
So now I am experimenting with a pocket sheath and dangler.

Don't remember who made this for me but I use it for all my knives. I hate when my knife rides horizontally in the bottom of my pocket. This sheath keeps the knife vertical and is large enough that I can retrieve the knife without removing the sheath from my pocket.

On this pic it's all pulled up a bit:

This is how it normally looks, the same content, but no knives visible:

The piece of leather can't rotate or move around because of the little 'legs' at the bottom. These 'legs' also ensure it won't move up.

I usually push it aside with my index finger and pinch the knife between my index finger and thumb. The piece of leather stays neatly in place during this process.

Nice idea, pocket divider! and welcome to the forums too !

edited to add, one thing that might be a good idea would be to glue in a base across the bottom, it would add some rigidity to the overall setup too.

It depends on the size of the knife
I'll just throw anything sized similarly to a GEC 15 or 68
but for larger knives I like a belt sheath

I picked up one of the pocket slips with a clip from Mike at Collector Knives. I'm really liking it so far.
Here it is with a #73. I got the large version.

Thanks Gary!

That's a great tip. It's quit rigid as it is, but I'll keep it in mind in case it gets more flexible in time.

I've never used a slip/sheath on my pocket knives. Just drop it in there and go. Everything from delrin to ivory. After awhile it gets the lived in look, but I don't mind. Just character marks. ;)

Thanks StrayRound, it worked out well, with the knife being as long as it is, and with the mod's done to the sheepsfoot so it's spine is level with the clip blade when closed, the knife really snaps in solid, holds great. Not all knives are suited to my style of sheaths, as you can see it is what I call leather origami, wrapped around and then fold down behind to form the belt loop, I've recently started to add a small layer of leather at the bottom so now there's two pieces of leather, but it is still quite trim to wear on the belt.

Unlike the other sheaths, this would just hold the one it's made for, so the others in this thread are probably a bit handier if you have a range of folders you want to switch out to carry each day, verses having a sheath made for each folder. Those look pretty nice too and handy for a wide range of folder sizes.

That's nice! I've been looking for something like that for a while. Trying to work out the sizes, my Sodbuster Jr is about my widest knife, does that mean I need the smaller version?

Here is a shot of the same pocket slip with a Sodbuster Jr. in it. Maybe this will help you decide which size works best for you.

I asked a shoemaker to make me a clip from a beaver tail, I use it when I wear a suit.
The knife is a William Henry T10 PD, with an engraving from a local talent.

Very nice little knife. Not a traditional knife though. Let's keep it traditional knife pics only. Thanks.

I decided to give a shot to the Collector Knives clipless slip. Though with all of the satisfied customers of the ones with the clip I think I might have to give that a try too!

I really like it so far, keeps the knife (my #15 for now) out of harms way from keys and whatnot. I've discovered it also keeps it securely in place in my pocket, and won't fall over and be uncomfortable. The slip seems to be very well made, and after being a little tight it is coming around (which I figured it would do). I also picked up a large but I haven't used it yet. Really just a great product all around. Thanks for all of the input!
