Pocket Slips/Sheaths

I use them all the time. Besides protecting my knives they keep them from slipping out of my pockets. Worth every penny and worth the extra time it might take to access one. I haven't lost a knife in years and years. I lost a few before using a slip pouch. Knock on wood.

Here's some of mine. There have already been a few bladeforums dealer members mentioned as a source, another is A.G. Russell.

Who made the Black Pocket Slip on the right with the flap?

My catahoula cur dicided that my pocket sheath would make a good chew toy. Lucky the knife inside escaped without a scratch.

Never used a slip for years, just dropped my Buck or Case into my jeans pocket along with keys, coins, etc. and never gave it a second thought. As I began to acquire nicer knives, I realized the bolsters were getting scratched pretty quickly and the knife would need to fly solo if I wanted to avoid this. I started carrying my knife in my back right pocket, by itself, and that solved the issue.

I bought a knife from Derrick that included a leather KSF slip and I really liked it for the carry options it opened up.

This Christmas, I picked up a Northfield Big Jack from Mike and ordered one of his leather slips to go with it. This knife is a beast and lives up to its name! This rascal is just too big to drop into my pocket loose, so the slip serves its purpose well. In retrospect, I should have gotten the one with the pocket clip, as that would allow it to ride better, secured at the top of my pocket. The Big Jack fits in there pretty tight.

Unless it's too big for one (like my GEC #45), I like to use a leather slip. Like others have said, it protects the knife from coins, keys, etc; but it also protects phones, receipts, and whatever else from your knife. I also like them for keeping the workings of my knives relatively lint-free, and they serve (to an extent) to protect them from sweat in those hot Texas summers.

I have a few knives with belt sheaths Buck 110, Schrade 70T and such but have never used a pocket slip. After reading this thread I think it's time to get a couple.

I'm ashamed to admit it... I started using the slips from Mike on my 77's. Not only does it save them from bouncing around with keys and coins, now I sometimes find myself carrying two and even three knives in one pocket... the other day I carried six! Crazy for sure, but it's a great way to carry a knife- or half a dozen...

Another I use and like a lot. Scout Leather co. Horween Leather with brass rivets. Pics aren't great... GEC Washington Jack and maratac copper aaa.

Tom S. (Whetstone39) gave me this KSF pocket sheath in a giveaway, and I finally fitted a couple knives to it.

Custom drop point in CPM-154 and green micarta from Corey Lueneburg, and a Case teardrop in Tru-Sharp and amber bone.

That's the spirit, roseskunk! :D:thumbup::D

Here are a couple of pocket slips I use regularly, both repurposed from an old baseball glove. The one on the right was originally part of the webbing of the glove, and the one on the left was originally part of the glove's wrist strap. In between is a commercial Tenba belt pouch that usually holds my phone, 3 knives, a flashlight, and a small multitool.

I also have a trifold "knife wallet" in which I carry 3 or 4 knives, a credit card diamond hone, a lucky coin or two, and maybe a spare five-dollar bill. I'll probably eventually stick in a Craftsman 4-way screwdriver and a P-38 (can opener, not pistol or plane ;)).

Cool to see your set-up GT  I always figured something like this! :D

That set-up certainly appeals to me, Jack, and my avatar certainly suggests it. But once I shaved my mustache, I decided to cultivate a less flamboyant, more discreet, persona. ;)

I understand my friend ;) I once went to a fancy-dress party in similar attire. I got rid of the hat early on as it took up too much space, but then realised that the stick-on moustache made me look more like Saddam Hussein than Emilano Zapata! :D

5K Q , I am going straight to the basement and dig up some old baseball mits the kids had. Sure the wife won't mind as long as I leave her dads one alone.

I started to use one recently, at first to protect my new custom knife, but I found it very comfortable in the pocket.

L-r: SAK Tinker, Case slim trapper cv, SAK alox pioneer old cross, GEC 71(newest addition!), Hubertus auto, Northwoods Madison Barlow. The first 4 were handstitched by me. The black suede w/ velcro was bought at a knife show and the KSF came with the knife. The top 4 are carried regularly, and the bottom 2 are stowed in in a special cigar box.
I've been making and using them quite a bit lately. Mainly to protect the finish from everything else riding in my pockets. Also it keeps pocket lint out of freshly oiled joints.

It's great to see so many homemade and repurposed (out of baseball glove) sheaths!:thumbup:

This is the only slip I own. It was handmade and came with the knife when I bought it. It's nice because the outline of the stitching follows the lines of the knife perfect so it fits in one way only and is held tight enough to that it won't fall out but it's easy to retrieve.

This thread is one of the reasons I like HJs, stockmen with punches and full-sized SAKs. Such inspiration for some leathercraft! If only I had an old ball glove lying around...
