Pocket slips. What do you think?

I like the slips that have a clip on them...for my work carry, that helps me keep the knife upright in my slack's interior coin pocket. A sideways knife in slacks usually gets a sideways look.

Both clipped models from CK work great for this. I also appreciate keeping the blades covered/clean for food prep, or my whittlers free of oxidation so they stay shiny and sharp!

In jeans or 511 pants on the weekends, I use the large size to carry larger knives. I shattered my pelvis and broke my back a few years ago, so sitting on anything in my back pockets is painful...and my other pockets have phone, vape (I know, should quit), chap stick, modern folder, flashlight, spare magazine, etc etc...so having a "clipped" traditional is really nice.

The only thing I drop directly in a pocket are similar in size to single blade 15s ...or smaller patterns that fit in my jeans coin pocket.

I guess I'm firmly in the ranks of nancies that Tony Bose clowns! (we love you Evan :p)

I agree .

I feel that the clipped pocket sheath ( notice I call it a Sheath not a Slip because it is totally different than a soft slip ) is a greatly misunderstood and an largely unknown addition to the " how do I carry my knife " question .
It modernises the Traditional carry option without compromising the integrity and the vibe of the knife .
The knife is always there just like a modern folder without the side effects .

Alright, that's pretty Sweet! Got any in pocket shots?

Seeing all of these clipped slips are making me think about ditching the Hinderer and Emersons and picking up a clipped slip for a Case Bose Wilfred lockback or Lanny's Clip.

I've been trying a new thing lately, putting my larger modern slipjoint knife in a hank and my traditional in either a slip or, today, just in the pocket.

All this talk has me wanting to get a variety of differences going to see whether I'll prefer something better to what I've just naturally gravitated toward.

I'm carrying my forum TC in a relatively cheap CK clip slip and it's working out great! I usually carry my small inkosi clipped in my rf pocket but I'm trying this instead and I like it. I smashed the clip a little on this one so its a little more lower profile.

Ken that's absolute perfection. I'm still all teared up ya put away your leatherworking tools, harronek harronek

Was just talking to Paul yesterday, gonna have to get some of those clips. Bout out of my regular ones.

All kinds of variety of carry when built as Ken suggests.

Smashing the clips is all but required. Forgot to mention that myself!

I will guarantee that a sheath/slip with an UltiClip on it would sell like mad.

We use em on IWB holsters.

Spendy though, looking at ten bucks for the clip instead of .35 cents. But if security is an issue those Ulticlips stay put!

No need for a slip. If I’m going to carry and use a knife, I want the character to develop as such. Never had a knife tear through a pocket either so I don’t get that reason to use one.

I think that pocket slips are pretty bulky... But if I have a knife that I don't want getting scratched up (generally when new, or if it's a favorite) and I'm going to have keys in with it, or if I feel it may fall out of my pocket in certain situations (darn women's pants with shallow pockets...), I'll use my own creation of the knife sock/cozy. It does add to the time it takes to remove from pocket and use, so it's not always convenient. I generally go without.

I haven't got any recent pics , but here is an old one of one clipped IWB of a pair of running/gym shorts . Try carrying a Traditional knife in the pocket of those and see how long it is before it's fallen out of the bad designed and slippery pockets .
I have carried clipped IWB for many many hours and it has never moved .

Beautiful work. If you don't mind, can you tell me how you get the rough-out side of the leather so smooth? Is that a side effect of the wet forming process?
Thanks,
Jeff

If you were to ask any of the leatherwork pro's here on forum like Paul Long / Dave Ferry / Gary Graley what they consider to be the most important component of a sheath or slip I would put money on their answer being
" Buy the best leather you can get "
I was and still am an amateur leather dude , but from the beginning I listened to those guys and purchased top quality leather and that one single thing moved my work up a few quality notches overnight .
In the end all of my sheaths were made ' Rough Out " and I graded the leather by the density and quality of the rough side not the smooth which is a complete reversal of what 99% of what everyone else does .
I developed a few tricks to smooth down the rough , but honestly if the leather is good and dense the forming and the finish that you apply really lays it down .

Here are a couple of pics to show how " Rough " the leather is before the finish is applied .

This slippery little peanut decided it wanted to escape from my pocket a few weeks ago. Luckily it was found hiding in my car.
This extra small pocket slip is now insuring there will be no more escapes.
@Redbeardo, Rob, thanks for a fine product and the solution to my little companions antics.
