Podcast centered around slip joint making/traditional knife history - The Catch Bit Show

It was a great and informative episode 2 with Tom who talked about the knives from New Britain which included Landers Frary & Clark.

Here are a few pictures to go along with that show that was released today.

This is the best photo I have of my old L.F. & C box that I have used for a number of years to take photos of knives on . Universal may have been known more for their Food Grinders than their knives . The box was left inside a house that we bought in 1973 . And this is the only LF&C knife that i have ever found . It has very nice wood but the blade is very proud and also a broken blade .

Both Mike's first Barlow and Evans version of the curved Russell Barlow's have to be a handful of knives that would be hard to take in all at once Charlie, I imagine myself that these knives would have to be on top of the Desk over quite some time to "soak them in" a bit.
That's where they are, Duncan!! I look at them every day!!

That's very cool Charlie, I would say ANY knife that deserved that spot a-top of your desk would have to be a considerable knife- let alone three of them, I'm so pleased Evan came though- and with style!

A few bugs crept in my system and have laid me flat out on the bed, I listened to myself on the Sears and cringed at my voice- it actually made me break out in a sweat, 😰 especially when I picked up on the mistake where I said a certain Schrade Walden was a early 40's- and its not, how I made that mistake I don't know.
Its amazing how much pressure we place upon ourselves, today -that would be a totally different exercise, a lot more enjoyable and relaxed, I'm thinking that's called self improvement of which I always strive for in the thirst of trying to learn more about this crazy passion we all share.
What a great place for us to be in among such great people.!

Stunning examples shared with us ( above ) Herder Sir!.

I really enjoyed catching up this weekend with completing the Jason Kraus- I need to look up on line the Forged in Fire episode he was on, it sounded like the contestants were really up against it, we know as viewers that the times are extremely unrealistic, and it must be hugely frustrating ( that would be an understatement) when something goes wrong for instance a crack in the metal, when....in the real World the Craftsman would take the time to ensure this would be more likely not to happen- let alone everything else, even down to the use of tools that your not used to as Jason mentioned! Really interesting!! :):thumbsup:

I just got two Knife World Magazines delivered to me together this weekend, May issue was in there, so I haven't caught up - yet.
This weekends Podcast episode 71 on the Gear Driven Blades was very cool, to hear you say that they fire almost as strong as an Auto was surprising!
I imagined a fairly soft mechanical movement with a lock at the end- nothing fast!
Being able to have a peek on the inside workings of the Jet Knife is pretty darned fascinating - once again thank you Gents for this show, I would be quite lost without this now, it's always a highlight every second weekend for me to listen to!

I just finished listening to Episode 73 with Mike, Neal, and Stephen Cocker. It was very entertaining and informative. Man, I'd like to get back to the UK and take in the sights in Sheffield!
Thanks for a great episode and for providing links to the knives and other interesting items!
