Police 4

I just said the other day that after I purchase the GB2 it would be my last purchase for awhile. There's no way I can pass up on this new Police. Dammit Sal! Enabler! :D

The SS Police was also my first Spydie, around 2000.

It certainly looks as close to a perfect "up for anything" knife I've seen so far. I was always on the edge of buying a 3 but never pulled the trigger; I'll have a 4. Great design, can't wait to put it to use.

I'm liking this tough K390 steel in the Police 4 because it's a beefy knife.

I designed the Police 4 for me. It's a little big for legal carry in many places, but it's what I would like to carry everywhere. I re-profiled the proto down to about 20 degrees incl. Big enough for food prep, works well out in the bush where I live.

Now i still have zero experience with K390, but so far i have never seen high vanadium carbide volume steel types holding up with a 20 degrees inclusive edge angle for anything outside of slicing pieces of paper etc.
What is your experience so far, and how do you sharpen K390 ?

Hi Kwackster,

I'll let you know. I don't carry it in town due t it's size, so my testing is at home. I'm on-the-road right now, so I don't have it with me. I sharpened it by hand.

I think you made this for me too ;)
Love me a tough svelte lock back with some reach!
The Foliage green G10 Endura I just picked up will have to do until the P4 is available in the wild.

Really appreciate your efforts Sal!

Sal, if you don't mind: did you design the Police 4 using the PowerLock instead of your standard lock back? If so, how is holding up, and how is the knife's dexterity on closing?

Thanks.

I'm curious why no one suggested calling it the Military Police.

any chance of this coming in all SS? never had the pleasure of owning one of the previous SS versions... never had a military either... if this came in SS it would be like killing 2 birds with one stone for me lol.

I agree there's some high vanadium carbide blades that don't hold up with lower angles. Curious which ones you have experience with.

I'll be skipping this one. I'm not real happy with the increased use of low-chromium steels in Spyderco knives right now. M4, K390, HAP40, etc. I don't like these steels and find them very impractical. Especially on a folding knife.

I'd rather see this in PSF-27, to be honest. It's a pretty tough steel but also stainless in practice from my experience.

Will still be buying new spyderco models, already have a few on pre-order, but none in these steels.

The new P4 redesign makes this the first Police model I have been interested in. The steel choice just adds to the interest, but I would have been happy with S30V or something. With the K390 I am more intrigued and cannot wait for this knife to be released.

I would definitely buy it in stainless. Especially a not too hard to sharpen stainless. I don't like carbon steel for pocket knives.

K390 is an added bonus for me. I'm excited about the redesign. Looks great. Can't wait.

So do I.

Dear Sal the Police 4 landig in shops still May?
And planning spyderedge variant.

Thanks so much.
This is my favourite Police when the 4 arrive.
