It was raining and I was bored, so I decided to put this together. I hate it when the paint on my Spyderco clips gets scratched and nasty looking. So here is a simple aesthetically pleasing solution.

This is an *easy* clip polishing method anyone can do for less than $5.00. All you need is your typical Spyderco knife, a T-6 torx screwdriver, 320grit sandpaper, and 1500grit sandpaper. In this case, I will do my Endura 4 ZDP-189, I have also seen this done on the Military and ParaMilitary line.

Start by removing the clip screws with the T-6 screwdriver

Once the clip is removed, begin sanding with the 320grit sandpaper until the majority of the paint is removed. It's up to you, but I left paint on the backside so that rust won't accumulate there, plus you won't see that side anyways because it is flush with the FRN when assembled.

Next, finish with the 1500grit sandpaper, this is where you'll need to use some elbow grease hehe. Continue sanding until the desired finish is achieved. I actually don't like my clips too shiny, but again it's up to you. You could also finish this with some metal polishing compound if you want it really shiny, but I was just going with what I had on hand.

Re-attach the clip to the knife and you are finished. The whole process can be done in less than an hour easy. It would be a good idea to keep your newly polished clip lubricated so that it doesn't rust. I recommend regular cleaning with a teflon cloth like Tuff Cloth or you can keep it lubed with Rem Oil.

Thanks for looking, all comments and suggestions are welcome, and please feel free to post pics of your polished clips!

luckily the maintenance dept. at work just picked up a new sandblaster so I have been sandblasting my D4 clips, takes about 2 minutes...... :)

Personally I think they look best at the 320 finish. I did that to my waved endura and love it

Nice job

I usually mirror polish the back of my clips to keep rust away
but i cheat by using a buffing wheel ;)

I used 2000 grit paper to get mine mirror-shiny. There's some concavity in the clip, though, so it took a while for me to get into those ditches.

I also left the black paint on the back, btw. No point in sanding it since it's not going to be seen.

Polished up the Delica 4 today because the clip was getting the typical scratches.

I didn't go crazy on it because I've decided I don't like the mirror-polished look. So I spent about 30min. on it

Now let's see some polished clips, post them up!

I'll post a pic later, but mine is the same clip on the same knife as yours, except the whole thing is polished to a mirror finish (2000 grit). I did it for too long, and the Spyder started to fade, so I had to make it disappear completely :(

And the Salt1, this one I went with a satin look, and I polished the set screw too.

It's easy man, a monkey could do it.

Truthfully speaking, the Endura at the top was my first.

Sandpaper and elbow grease is all it takes.

I like to take them up to about 400 grit and I don't sand the logo area as much as the rest of the clip... I like to leave a little black in there so it has an antique kinda look.

Hate black clips:grumpy:, have done this on all my knives that come with a black clip. Your right, easy to do and takes no time at all:thumbup:Plus it's a cool contrast with the black left recessed in the logo/print.
