Polite knife

I always have my Rough Rider mini whittler with me no matter what else I may have.

Opened hundreds of boxes with it over the years without scaring anyone. It may be the first knife I ever wear out from use.

Got it! An XL Espada with a yellow-colored blade and brown handle. The bolster could be alternating black and brown so it looks like a belt.

Call it the SB Espada...

I think a Leatherman is a step up from a SAK (excepting the MUT) in terms of common acceptance. They are pliers first, and everyone that does anything has one.

a slippie or any smaller knife that takes two hands to open should give them time to adjust to a knife in their midst. Though with the current population of sheeple running around they may still react badly. Which is still their problem.

I don't know these people at all except they are homeschoolers. Sheeple are not typically homeschoolers.

I wouldn't wave my Vaquero Grande around them but a slipjoint, Swiss Army Knife, small multitool -- sure. Just the sort of do-it-yourself toolkit that they should be able to identify with.

I like my Leatherman Skeletool. Compact, lightweight, carabiner to clip to a belt loop, small pliers fold out, 2 screwdriver bits, and -- ta-daaa -- a one hand opening hole small blade on a liner lock on the outside.

Of course, all the Wave and Charge variants have knives on the outside also, but they are big multitools. Skeletool practically hides inside my fist, 4.25" overall.

+1 on the Skeletool. I just picked one up and am liking it quite a bit. It's the little brother to my Wave. On an interesting note..I got my first one from Target for just shy of $70.00. Tonight I just picked one up for $40 from Tractor Supply Co. The one from Target is going back! :D

I go with the one below. You can always carry it and whatever you like and pull the cadet for playdate use.

I'm a professional myself, and I can't remember the last time I got any negative attention from my slipjoints. It does happen of course, but those were the exceptions rather than the rule. A big part of it is the knife's appearance; another part is the way you comport yourself. Think efficiency of motion and avoid any flourishes when using your knife. Big, flamboyant movements have a tendency to scare the helicopter parents.

Benchmade 943. If they can't accept it as a classy gentleman's knife, then is their opinion really worth it to YOU? Ask yourself if these people really worth having as "friends" if a knife bothers them so much. I bet they'd really freak out if they found out someone was legally carrying a concealed gun. (concealed IS concealed ;) )

Honestly, I am fed up with the type of people who won't accept that I carry a knife daily, just as I have since 3rd grade. (I thought these types of people are supposed to be SOOO accepting of different "lifestyles"???) To me, if it bothers them that much, screw 'em, they're not worth knowing. I am a "rocket scientist" for goodness sake, w.t.h. do they have to worry about me carrying a stupid pocket knife??? :grumpy:

(sorry for the rant)

I find Swiss Army styled knives (Victorinox / Wegner) don't cause much of fuss.

I agree completely.

My Dad was telling me that he even had someone freak out over him using the Case knife I bought for him at work. Some easily frightened lady decided it looked like a 'hunting knife' or something.

You might be surprised. Even professionals can like knives. I'm a teacher (professional, yes?) and lurv knives.

Carry whatever you want, but put a Sponge Bob sticker on it. Sponge Bob makes everything less scary.

Now THAT'S using your noodle!:p

PS.
I once had a relative freak out when i pulled out a tiny Gerber/Vallotton designed assisted one hand opener, to cut a plastic fastener on my nephews just unwrapped xmas toy. His reponse was something like: "easy there, rambo".

I guess ya cant please everyone.

The Spyderco Dragonfly 2 is my personal favorite for a people friendly knife with good cutting power, nice ergos, and good steel.

Another vote for a SAK. I think one of the ALOX models is a gentleman's knife at an everyday joe price. It's on my Christmas wish list. (which will, of course, make my wife much happier than me asking for a Sebenza!)

Maybe one of these?

L to R: Victorinox Rambler, Spyderco Grasshopper, Spyderco Kiwi 3, Spyderco Dragonfly 2

How about getting a Spyderco Bug? They have a "cute" factor to them since they are so small. When they get used to seeing your Bug, change it to a HoneyBee... then a Grasshopper.... maybe they won't notice your little knife growing up a little:p.

The SAK that qualifies as politest is the Florist model. It's also called the Gardener or the Utility knife. It's really a useful little knife. One of my favorites.
