Polite knife

Kiwi might work. Recommend any smaller, plain edge Spyderco with one of the colored FRN handles. I think I've seen red, green, blue, grey, yellow, purple...

Or a medium Case stockman.

Carry whatever you want, but put a Sponge Bob sticker on it. Sponge Bob makes everything less scary.

This is the way I would go !!!! Everyone Loves Sponge Bob ...... John

A sak or Case slipjoint would be great. Another knife that you should consider is the Buck 503. Very classy looking gents folder. Strong design that is really easy on the pocket. I like mine a lot. Good luck.

I carry a Vic stay-glow Climber and a Case Peanut to work every day.Neither raises any eyebrows or hurts any feelers.

This is my polite knife. Goes in the pocket of my cube-dweller slacks every morning. Opens boxes, cuts plastic, never raises an eyebrow.

A SAK is always a good option but i'm in love with my new gentleman's pocket knife that i can't recommend enough.
The Spyderco Chaparral!

English teach by any chance? :D

Actually, yes. :D I use the internet as a forum in which I can relax my standards.

I guess I should take the opportunity to note that as Esav said, homeschoolers may very well not be sheeple. I was homeschooled until high school by very liberal parents, but I grew up hunting, fishing, and farming. GO FIGURE! People may not always be what they seem, and they deserve the chance to show you who they are. If they turn out to be obnoxious yuppies, then you were right. If not, you may have some new friends, or even converts to the love of knives. Gross blanket statements based on first impressions do everyone a disservice.

Be a knife ambassador!

Check your local and state laws. Choose a knife that fits those parameters and buy it. If they have a problem with it....TOO BAD!

Most production folders fit the bill. Its how you present yourself when using the knife infont of others. Use your knife discreetly in a non agressive manner and it should be no problem. Flash it around, flip it and displaying strong body language could cause problems.

Bah, humbug! :p

It's a semi-social event he's linked to through his wife. Not the place to show how impolite he can be.

If you're looking for a small folder with a touch of class, I'd suggest checking out the A.G. Russell 2.5" Ti lockback with the Black lip MOP handle.

I have brought my "Barney" coloured Delica to many play dates with my son and nobody objected. A few folks said they liked the colour.

How's about pairing up your knives and choose the one most appropriate to your surroundings? This is a good 'gentlemanly' carry for me, I find...

You might give a Chambriard Le Thiers Compact a look. I picked one up not long ago, and it's a great little knife that won't turn any heads.

I have either one of these in my vest cigarette pocket. Case small toothpick in blue bone and US made Uncle Henry small stockman.

i dont know if they are still in production but i think a kopa would fit the bill. i have a tiger coral that is beautiful. aside from the looks it can be opened on handed, is a lockback and has vg10.

A Spyderco, yes, but what model? More pix please.[/QUOTE]

It's an H1 Ladybug. Ladybugs are great workhorses for their size. I heard Sponge Bob carries a little Yellow H1 Ladybug just like it.

interesting thread.
I was hanging around at my sons' day care centre a few years ago.
They had a big box full of cardboard tubes ,cereal boxes etc -basically rubbish-for "craft".
I noted that the kids were trying to cut stuff with those dicky safety scissors-hopeless.
I sat down and helped create numerous works of art using the efficient kershaw chive.
Pretty soon I was making aeroplanes with moving propellers using tubes & sticky tape et al.
This went on for a few weeks -sitting at the craft table cutting up cardboard shapes & making stuff.
The littlies used to queue up for my knife based assistance.
As an experiment I brought bigger knives along eventually using a big Schrade OT lock back.
Not one of the ladies who ran the place ever said anything other than they wished more dads would hang out & do stuff like that.
So I guess it depends on what yer gonna do with the knife at the playdates-
my tip make stuff for the kids out of throwaway material.
cheers
