Polkowski Questions

It does look nasty. It appears to have a Scorpion type recurve but, the blade is much wider toward the point. It is on my list for sure. I'm really liking the direction Al is going with his knives. Now if I could just find someone to lend me about $3000. That would tak care of all of the Polkowski's on my wish list. I have good credit anyone want to talk interest rates?

What do you guys think of Al's edge geometry? I really like my Polkowskis, but they all come with fairly dull edges and are somewhat difficult to sharpen.

(by the way, this was brought up in a previous post a few months ago, just interested in more feedback)

If I have one complaint about his knives, it would have to be the edge. Most of mine have been very sharp, but not through the entire length of the edge. I would like to see him reduce the angle a little bit. If you look at an edge on a new knife, it looks as if he sharpened the knife and then bead blasts them. If this is the case, it would account for the spotty edge.

The thing is, if I am going to carry one of his knives, I will sharpen it, if it is just a looker, the edge stays as it came. That goes for most of my knives. Although, I would appreciate a good edge on even the lookers.

The 2 I just got, Companion & Polecat are pretty SHARP along the whole edge. Weird that some of them aren't... guess the bead blasting would be the case.

Attila,

Les Robertson has a Scorpion listed on his site.

marklee,

Thanx! I don't think Les has it in stock, but you can order it. I'll look into it.

I just received a scorp from Les this week. It was a fairly long wait, but much faster than waiting to get it from Al directly. The knife arrived in absolutely perfect condition and with no complications crossing the USA/Canada border. If you really want a Scorpion or another Polkowski, Les is the man. Ask him what the wait will be. He talks to Al regularly and they're both great straight up guys.

The 2 polkowkis ive owned (CQC, Polecat), were not very sharp. It looks like they are bead blasted after sharpening. I sharpened my polecat and it took a very keen edge, so the potential is there.

I really appreciate any and all comments regarding my knives.

Regarding sharpness:

All knives are machine sharpened before bead blast and touched up after. If the edge is shiny, it has been touched up.

Due to the comments on this forum, I am making changes to edge geometry and sharpening angle. If there is more that I should do, let me know.

If you are not satisfied with the sharpness of your knife, return it to me for resharpening. I'll refund your shipping costs.

As always, thanks for the input.

Ill have a pic of a Dingo and a Banshee in about 10 days. They will be photographed when they get here. Yes, they are for sale.

This is not all the models that Al makes. But it's a good start.

Please feel free to contact me about Al's knives.

Les,

How long does it take to fill an order on the models not in stock. Thanks.

Al, it is great to see you here. It was a real pleasure for me to meet you at the Blade show this year. I also had the chance to meet Bob Kasper at your table. I look forward to seeing you again at the 2000 Blade show. I'll be picking up more of your knives.

I am impressed with your willingness to make changes to how you make your knives based on our comments.

Everyone has their favorite maker and I think Les can vouch for me on this, you are my favorite maker. Keep up the excellent work!

FYI for everyone interested in a Scorpion. I spoke to Les the other day and it would appear that if you aren't on his list by now, the wait will most likely be until the 2000 Blade Show. Still, not a very long wait.

Hey Al,

Welcome to the forums! Great to have you here.

I agree with the comments made in previous posts. I picked up a Scorpion from Les, and it is one beauty. It sharpened up nicely and has become my constant carry knife at home.

I have orders in with Al for a Gaunt neck knife, Gaunt training knife, and a Scorpion training knife. It's great that Al is willing to make the trainers for me. They will give added realism to my training. Too bad they aren't due until August '00.

The defensive hideout knives that Al Polkowski handcrafts are in a class by themselves. I especially like his Kasper collaborations. Together, the knives excell.

They are flawlessly ground, superbly finished, and perfectly sheathed.

many have tried, but no one has been able to duplicate Al's knack for making them "just right".

PS, im carrying a Scorpion right now.
Yes, I touched up the edge.
But I am very picky.

The edge from Al would cut a "trench" in a hanging meat roast with a good snap cut.
I would stake my life on this knife.

For a similar knife, I like Al's new "8-ball"-very nice, the Urban Kukri is another sleeper....

Hi Sing,

Depends on the knife you are interested in as to how long the wait is.

Contact me off line and I can give you more details.

Gary,

The catalog is slow in coming, best bet is to look at AL's work on my website.

The Scorpion is the best fighting knife ever designed. Quick as cat in Hammer or Reverse grip. Great for everyday carry and deploys with ease.
The Scorpion is a pure fighter..
The Bulldog & Pug, are great fighters and could be used for a Tactical/Camp Knife if need be.
The Companion is a good for everday carry.

You can not go wrong with any Polkowski Knife..
