Unsure, but I picked the top as stainless to have a 50% chance of being right.

Did you read the question? Please folks, when you say "top one" or "bottom one", state which one you believe is carbon and which one is stainless. It's not that hard to be clear.
"The top one is ---. The bottom one is ---."
The original question wasn't asked very well.
I would go with the lower one being carbon, just because ...
A nice twist would be to edit the photo and swap the blade steel and handles to throw off those sleuthing based on the minor differences in handles (texturing, etc.).
Sorry, but how is "Which one is stainless steel?" at all confusing?![]()

This is Soooo easy; the grey handled one is, without a doubt, stainless.TA-DA
Bottom one was photoshoped the most. I can see it.
So they are both stainless.I'm gonna' have to withhold any specific commentary on that assertion until the Sunday evening reveal, but I'll reiterate that the only things that were photoshopped (actually GIMP'ed) were:
•Converted handles to greyscale (using "paths" tool to trace, then copying/pasting to a new layer to mask the original image)
•Adjusted values of handles to have approximately the same tint of grey (using "curves" tool)
•Copied/pasted logo from one handle onto the other, then tweaked its levels to blend it in with the lighting of the "recipient" handle (also using "curves" tool)
