Please folks, when you say "top one" or "bottom one", state which one you believe is carbon and which one is stainless. It's not that hard to be clear.

"The top one is ---. The bottom one is ---."

The original question wasn't asked very well.

I would go with the lower one being carbon, just because ...
Did you read the question? :p

I vote bottom because I can. If I'm right I will be soooo proud of myself and if I'm wrong, that takes being wrong off the list of things I need to do on the day of the great reveal. ;)

I noticed the grind doesn't seem to be as crisp on the bottom knife. Would the type of steel influence this?--KV

It's equally crisp on both. If it appears otherwise it's within the same range of variation that one sees piece to piece with these knives, as well as the very slight difference in reflection due to positioning in the frame of the shot.

A nice twist would be to edit the photo and swap the blade steel and handles to throw off those sleuthing based on the minor differences in handles (texturing, etc.).

There's no difference in the texturing, and I already mentioned how one of the two was a little older and used a slightly different variant of the handle marking so I edited the image to make the markings identical, as well as adjusting the value of the handles so that the greys were a close match. :)

This is Soooo easy; the grey handled one is, without a doubt, stainless. :p TA-DA Actually, until they are used, I find it difficult to distinguish most of the time. Some carbon knives are pretty easy to tell (e.g. thinking Mora robust) but most look alike to me when new.

Bottom one was photoshoped the most. I can see it.

I'm gonna' have to withhold any specific commentary on that assertion until the Sunday evening reveal, but I'll reiterate that the only things that were photoshopped (actually GIMP'ed :p ) were:

•Converted handles to greyscale (using "paths" tool to trace, then copying/pasting to a new layer to mask the original image)
•Adjusted values of handles to have approximately the same tint of grey (using "curves" tool)
•Copied/pasted logo from one handle onto the other, then tweaked its levels to blend it in with the lighting of the "recipient" handle (also using "curves" tool)

:)

Trick question.
Answer: Neither
The top knife is obviously Vibranium and the bottom demonstrates classic Adamantium.

In short, I don't know and can't imagine how anyone could tell.

So they are both stainless.

So they are both stainless.
