poll: least favorite Spydie

For me it is the Viele. Not easy to open for big handed guys because of the closeness To the handle and a ptential "bleeder" because of smooth handle and no choil or guard.

To some extent or other, the resources spent on a particular model are a zero-sum game. For that reason, my shocking choice of least fave Spyderco is ... the Military! Don't get me wrong, I feel the Military is an extraordinarily well-done knife, and completely understand why it's got so many fans and has become the defacto Spyderco flagship. On the other hand, it doesn't work for me, with that huge handle it just isn't in the running for an everyday carry knife. So the attention paid to the military -- e.g., always being first in line for improvements, probably first in line for the rolling lock, etc. -- means that the knives I'm really interested in get a little less attention, perhaps.

In fact, the recent discussion of the Wegner has reminded me how much I like the design. Now I kinda wish *it* was the first in line for the rolling lock (or whatever cool lock Spyderco is thinking up next), and that it came with lined g-10 handles (although that might be available already), etc.

As a newcomer to this forum I'm disappointed that so many of the respondents assumed that Dennis' question was directed to appearance. I thought knives were chiefly about cutting, or as I call it, matter separation. Yet almost no one so far has discussed his choice in terms of performance.

Apart from quality issues, all Spyderco (or other) knives ought to be judged first, it seems to me, on cutting performance.Since performance implies use, the next criterion might well be how long it takes to dull the blade, and how difficult it is to transform the blade back from dull to sharp. Those tests having been passed, judgements about portability, lock, handle material, ugliness vs. beauty, price, etc., are all in order.
