It is a business decision based on the misunderstanding on the part of much of the customer base of what the competition finish is. Busse Combat is a business. If customers are demanding a pristine competition finish, which it was never intended to be, and accommodating them is a real problem, then the choices are to discontinue or to refuse to clean up competition blades for customers. Busse clearly places high value on customers' satisfaction with knives. If I ran the place I think my decision would be to discontinue, also.

I voted no but if they are having trouble with people complaining about the finish they should offer it but have a note beside the finish option stating that there is no warranty on the comp finish. On the plus side if it stays gone the value and rarity of the ones out there with increase.
The best option on thinking about this may be just to offer the finish at shows as the buyer can see what they are getting when they buy it.

No and I'll give you a great reason why. Business wise, Busse is supposed to be different from most other "standard" knife makers. A more select type of client if you will. One that can read and understand simple explanations. One that is mature enough to make a choice after reading a warning and go for CF or not on their own will. Getting rid of CF would mean that a) Busse is getting rid of one of the things that makes them different, the chance of picking more choices, more "custom" options that make them different form mass produced knives b)It would be a way of falling to the lowest denominator, one that cant read basic descriptions, instead of being the choice of the discriminating knife enthusiast.
Options are always good. Just put a very clear warning sign and describe what CF means. I know I likes my TGLB CF and it would have sucked if I couldnt have gotten it.

Honestly, I think they should just get rid of their paint and painting booth and buy a bluing tank and a few more media boxes to simplify things, but I understand the decision Jerry made on this one. One thing's for sure though....ALL their knives should be sharpened before leaving the factory like the comp blades were instead of the standard v-grind!!!:thumbup::thumbup:

I say HECK NO!!! The whiners need a public flogging! Give us a drop box or give us death!! Super dramatic I know... In all seriousness from a business stand point I totally understand. If we have a drop box with bold print letting people know you can't return a CF blade just based on the finish but, you can still give us s warranty on breakage all would be happy.

What do you say LETS DRINK TO THAT JERRY!! We all love Busse AND the CF!

Man, I sure screwed up. I accidentally voted YES! No, I do not want competition finish to be discontinued.

No. If people are sending theirs back because of tool marks Busse should charge a fee for it. I say keep the comp finish and maybe for those who are picky about tool marks, perhaps give the option of having limited tool marks at an extra fee.

I'd love to hear from those that intentionally voted YES on this one as far as reasoning.

I can get a coated blade from pretty much every other semi-custom knife maker out there. But NO ONE else offered the CF. FerFAL hit the nail on the head here.

I love Busse knives but they just lost my business until the CF if brought back. I know Jerry said that from time to time we might see it down the road. I'll be waiting and watching....

My way of thinking is this is really just a miscommunication between Busse and some ill-educated customers.

It seems like it could be solved very easily by creating a 'check box' where the customer ordering the comp finish must acknowlege that they are aware that the comp finish is an incomplete finish which will have grind and manufacturing lines.

Seems like a very easy fix...

Prior to the comp finish being an option I had to strip the coating off of my users myself. I'd rather just order them that way from Busse...

Anyone that complains about the looks of said finish needs to be reminded of the why the finish is what it is. No whiner/complainers. If you don't like the machine marks work them out yourself, it will make you appreciate the knife that much more. I love the knife finish and would hate to see it go away due to some complaining about the knife not being "pretty enough". You want pretty? Stare at the Busse mods...knives are for work. (rant over)
