Popular Mechanics Nov '19 Knife article

Some odd knife choices in that PM article. Then again PM doesnt cater to the small niche of knife nerds.

:DIve served with plenty of soldiers, who used the cheapest knives, they could lay their hands on. They were perfectly happy with them;)
Thats not to say, that there are not quality minded service members out there. Its just that soldiers are not amongst the most affluent of society.
I have three sons in this arena. Two sons in the military (Marine, 7 years, two tours of combat in the sandbox, and Coast Guard, 7 years, Maritime Enforcement Officer) and one son as a first responder (Full time firefighter).
With me as their father, they have no shortage of mid tech knives and gear as I love to get them the right tools for the job and I have much more disposable income than they do (and who doesn't like to buy new knives?!).

They typically won't use the number of Spyderco's, Benchmade's, and ZT's I've bought them while on duty.
Certainly they beat the hell out their knives on occasion, but the number one reason they consistently buy and use the cheap big box brands is because they LOSE them on a regular basis based on the environment and conditions they work in. A $10.00 - $20.00 Gerber or Buck is much more easily replaced than a $100.00 - $200.00 mid tech.

LMAO!!! I had a set of those very plans ordered from this very mag when I was a wee lad.

Never convinced the parents to let me cannibalize the Kirby though.

Kirby lol. My dad was a door to door Kirby salesman when I was a wee babe.

I think he probably still has ours hidden away somewhere.

I don't know about magazines, but whenever I come across generic "best of" web articles I tend to believe they just look at Amazon's statistics as to the highest selling with decent ratings products.

This is now a hovercraft thread.

Question is...what's the best hovercraft pilot knife? o_O
