Portable / Compact Convex Sharpening?

I posted this here a while back, but it's what I still use & it works well.

I glue a piece of wet/dry paper on the inside of one of the covers.
I use 1000 grit, but you can obviously use any other you like:

Rub some black compound on the inside of the other cover:

Then you can use the glossy part of the outside cover to finish it off:

Use it the same way you'd use a strop.
Start with the wet/dry paper if you need to,then go to the compound, then the glossy cover & you'll have a sharp, nicley polished edge.
It even comes in handy as a notebook if you need one of those too.

That's my attitude. The only sharpening device I carry is a DMT Mini-sharp

Yeah, I carry a DMT Diafold in my pack, but I use it mostly on my Moras. I really should practice using it on a convex edge. Anyway, I think it's time to branch out from the Sharpmaker and learn how to freehand any sort of edge...:)

Derrick, that really is a great little kit. A little bulky and heavy for throwing in a pack, for me, but it'd be great to have in the car. And Cliff's idea is pretty cool too, I'll have to try that one out one day.

interesting idea cliff....ill have to try that...maybe ill put the green compound on the opposite cover...

That is a great idea. I like a little more give, but it is hard to beat the simplicity.
