Bought a plain blade Wegner Jr. from Ray a few weeks ago. He told me up front that "it wasn't as sharp as his other Spyderco's". I went ahead and made an offer, it was accepted and I was prepared to receive a knife that would need sharpening. When the knife arrived a few days late due to USPS trouble with snow & ice, it indeed was not scary sharp. I emailed Ray and told him the knife arrived, but did not mention the knife being dull since I had been warned. In his reply, Ray asked what I thought of the condition of the knife, so I replied and told him it was indeed dull; and I was gonna' send it to Spyderco for sharpening. This bothered Ray to the extent he sent me a new Spyderco Dragonfly as reimbursement for the headaches caused by the "not so sharp plain Wegner Jr.", with a note that "It's just a little something to hold you over until your Spydie comes back".
This is service above and beyond the call of duty. Reminded me of a comment Chief made lately as we exchanged comments over another deal . . . "Knife Knuts are a cut above." And my experience on bladeforum.com with over a half dozen knife purchases since mid-November certainly confirms that.
thanks, Ray.
And to the forum, sorry for the length of this but it needed to be said.
