Possible counterfeit Cold Steel Urban Pal spotted

Ah... but let us not forget:

Yup. I like the fact that copies exist. Even unauthorized copies. More choices for me, more competition for manufacturers, more designs come about in the never ending race to keep ahead of the pack. Nobody gets to rest on their laurels in a capitalist system. That is a good thing.

Every good idea will be copied. End of story. If you cannot deal with this harsh fact of life, you need to get out of the business.

Yes, one cannot distinguish between a copy and a counterfeit.

I don't think you've made a clear enough distinction, Shecky. Is a "counterfeit" not also an "unauthorized copy"? I do think, however, that you've made your personal position very clear. Congratulations on your newest knife aquisition.

Curious. I wonder why they choose less expensive products to knock off? It seems to me it would make more sense to knock off the more expensive models.

To sell something at that price, they must have used cheaper materials, cheaper processes.

Or, it could mean that CS is extraordinary in their over pricing. Perhaps they are even made in the same factory, different serrations not withstanding.

The counterfeit blade is marked made in japan with very blurry marking. those urban pal blades are not made in japan, I believe that those models are made in Taiwan (or somewhere). only the more expensive san mai knives are still made in japan.

Left: Counterfeit, 3 serrations to 1 scallop.
Right: Real, 5 serrations to 1 scallop.

Where can I buy the fake one? I hate Cold Steel's itty bitty serrations. Probably made from the same steel or better (does it get worse than 420?).

Even want to buy a knife on Ebay??

I don't suggest doing so.

Here is my experience with buying a Benchmade on Ebay.

Too bad the photo used in the auction doesn't match the product
being delivered.

Enjoy

The auction listed these photos and described "Benchmade" in the title:

This is what arrived:[/u]

Oh yeah, I found his address and full name too. You think Fenton PD would like to know that one of its residents is commiting mail fraud?

Note to self....don't use US Postal Service when cheating people.

Anyway, he has offered a refund and I have requested one so I am waiting to see what happens.

Outside of that he replied to my negative feedback by writing ME negative feedback saying that I was a "Bad Ebayer" etc.....

He wants a mutual withdrawl of our comments too. What nerve.

Just be careful and DON'T buy knives on ebay. What a waste of time this has been.

My first screw on Ebay in all my years buying.

nauss,
Sorry to hear that happened to you! Hopefully the seller will make it right!
