Possible trade issue?

So I had a knife listed in the trade section. A member emailed me with a trade offer and I accepted. We both agreed last night to ship our trades today in flat rate boxes with delivery confirmation this morning. I went to the post office this morning around 10:30 and shipped my end then emailed the member the confirmation number and a picture of the confirmation slip and requested the same. I did not hear from the member until 3:30 this afternoon saying that due to car troubles he could not mail my end until Tuesday using overnight shipping and insured.

To me, this sounds an awful lot like I got scammed.

I replied to his email showing my concern that I had already shipped my end and asked why he did not let me know before I shipped. I have not received any sort of response from the member.

Any recommendations?

I would give it a day. Shit happens. If he starts ignoring you then I would worry. Maybe he does not want to respond till he has good news to report. Embarassment maybe on his part?

There isn't much he can tell that he hasn't already. He could answer back and forth saying the same thing until you get mad or he gets mad ... give it till Tuesday and see if he sends you that Deliv Conf #.

We get caught up in instant gratification and any glitch makes us unhappy and worried. I try to think of closing the deal as my gratification, and then just relax until the knife arrives. Even sent ASAP, it can get held up in transit.

I think these situations really depend on who you're dealing with. If its a new member or someone that has had issues before then I'd worry. If its a known and established member of the community then I think you're fine. Maybe if you posted the name then we could opine a bit better.

At this point I think we don't need naming, or the speculation/bashing it could create, based on what's been said so far. Esav's call for patience is the right one in my opinion.

I agree with Esav and Juj... The op can, and hopefully looked at the other parties feedback, and how long they have been on BF's, before entering the deal. Posting up the members name this early in the game, will just start pages of speculation...
Things do happen in life sometimes.

I will not post any names yet. I received an email from the member expressing his sympathy and promising to make things right on Tuesday. I will wait until Tuesday before I post any names on this or any thread.

This is not my first rodeo when it comes to forums. I've been scammed before and its no fun.

My point here is that we had an agreed upon time frame. He could have let me know sooner than he did and we could have rescheduled our shipments.

I agree with this too. Before entering into a trade, there are a few things people have to do, regardless of rodeo count status ;). Looking into a person's feedback on the forums, reading some of their posts, checking their profile, how much time have they been here, etc. it all fits together to build a picture of the person that you will be blindly shipping things to. I agree it sucks getting burned, but unless you are face to face trading with a real friend, that is always a risk.
The preemptive "I'm starting a thread" can backfire at times, and it has on a few people. As the others have stated, sometimes things happen unexpectedly, give the person the benefit of the doubt.

Fair enough. I wasn't suggesting he post the name as a means of shaming the other party but rather as a way to ascertain the reputation of that party. If the guy has a fair amount of feedback then I'm sure its fair to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I would give some one 24+ before being worried or concerned. i wouldn't post a thread about it so soon as well, most trades iv done items were not shipped out the same day never really bothered me IMO your fine!

I heard from the member today. He received my package and now wants to cancel the trade because he needs to sell his knives for the money. He claims he is going to return my knife but this situation keeps getting more and more fishy!

Well perhaps the car trouble requires him to do what he claims - sell off to raise funds. I would ask him politely when he'll be sending your knife back, with confirmation and insurance, and to forward you that information once it's on the way. He's still in contact with you and that is a good thing.

Wow, I hope it all works out for you brother. . .

I've sent a reply stating the following "After we had an agreement? Okay that's fine. Send my knife back in the same condition in which I sent it with tracking number and I will leave feedback"

New update: member sent me a new message stating he rejected the package and its being returned to sender. It took a total of 2 business days to get to him not including the weekend. Should I receive it back by Thursday? Or will I even get it back? And should I be able to use my tracking number I gave him to track the package? Because he did not repack it or put a new tracking number on it.

Having had a horrible experience with being scammed on a different forum with an expensive purchase, I hate to see this sort of thing. I'm a new guy here and while I have no dog in this fight, it seems clear that the member in question has been less than reliable. It will be interesting to see how this plays out, and hope that his identity will be revealed for others to avoid the same sort of issues.

If the package arrives empty, he will be outed and I will make a trip and pay this member a visit. Im not above driving 6 hours to to get my property back.
