Well I'm thinking a single spring hawbaker muskrat, D2 steel, 3 3/4 inches with stag scales, oh hey Ken some threaded bolsters would be nice also. Don't know if you have made this before or not. Thanks for the opportunity!

If the liners and springs were milled, I would not complain...

It would look somewhat like this 1926 illustration, minus the sheepsfoot blade.

Ken, I'm not sure if you've made a pen knife before, but that's my suggestion. Clip main with your modified pen blade secondary, riding on a single spring of course. CPM154cm, 3 1/4" - 3 3/8" closed length, with Ivory scales. A nice gents knife.

I am very fond of a single bladed Trapper with a Wharncliff blade or better yet a single blade Barlow.

How about A2 steel for the blade and a ivory linen micarta for the handle?

I am thinking a closed length of 3.5 inches makes for a nice and pocketable knife.

Ken, I was trying to think back on what I remember you making. I know I remember you making a BEAUTIFUL single electricians knife however I don't remember you doing a double. With your style and knack for pulling off the vintage look, I am suggesting a (2) blade electricians.

Pattern: Electricians
Number of blades (2), one screwdriver blade and one spear blade with two springs
Blade Steel CPM154cm
Closed length 3-3/4"
Scale material I'd suggest a black ebony however you limited it to "Bone, Ivory, Stag, certain Micarta and G10" so I''ll suggest a smooth, pocket worn bone.

I'm currently very interested in the Canoe pattern. I really like the way the 'nub' smooths the corners on the blades when closed.
Size: 3.5"-4" for perfect pocket carry.
Blades: don't think I've seen a Canoe jack w/ a wharnie and a pen.
Blade Steel: 154cm or ats-34. Both are modern and I wish I saw more of them on slipjoints.
Scales: Still looking for my first Ivory, but good Amber bone will do just fine.

I hope you find a challenging pattern somewhere in this thread. I'd love to see it as a WIP thread.

Hi Ken.
For a two bladed knife that you havent made yet....what about these? When Charlie put these up..the serrated bladed knife has never left my mind....I think its one absolute beauty of a knife....please see the photo ( Charlie, I hope I can use your photo? - please let me know if this is not ok, and I will rectify this immediately )
Ken, I feel when you do your thing on Bone, the jigging is just mind blowing, so....
I suggest this, The Two bladed knife that is top of Charlies photo - but slightly wider ( as in height if the knife was sitting on its springs ) - this way you have a higher blade to create more of a swedge.
Please include the serrations on one blade only, you would have to create the meanest, sleekest swedge.
Scales, I would want you to do your thing ...... jigged bone.
If you could do this as a single springed version, thus making it a nice slimeline carry.
Also if you could flute the bolsters?... or go all out in maybe pinching them with flutes?
The shield could maybe be unique, a one off?

.I think you will create a knife of beauty if you do this....what are your thoughts?

Thanks for the chance! I'd say go for a cigar-shaped single clip-point blade. Stag scales, nickel silver bolsters. 3.75" closed. It'd be silmple and elegant, like those classic German folding hunters. 1095 steel, of course.

Teardrop Jack in CPM154. Long pull and swedge on the main spear point blade, with a small wharncliffe secondary if that is doable. rattail bolster. In smooth bone scales. 3.5"-3 7/8" handle.

One blade of 1095 (or A2) with through-both-sides nail notch.
Gorgeous stag slabs. Arrowhead shield.

The Elephant's Toenail knives from the early 1900s are very interesting. I thinkthey were traditionally around four inches or a little more. It would be pretty cool if you could make jigged bone scales that have a 100 year old worn look. I don't know if the geometry of the short massive blades would provide you a challenge or not, but I don't think I've seen a custom knife in this pattern before. The blade steel doesn't matter to me.

I'd love to see a dogleg pattern with a clip point and a wharncliffe in D2 steel. Jigged bone handles. It's nothing exotic, but a favorite look to me. Serpentine if you have already done enough doglegs.

this is not an entry, but I wanted to thank you anyway; I really appreciate your will to test yourself and your skills with something new. I may not have seen but a small part of your knives, but it's not hard to see your continuous challenge. So I will play too
When I read your post, the first pattern that I thought about is the Congress Jack...but a Canoe Jack would be awesome too. I don't know if you ever made a TL-29 kind of knife, but that would be pretty cool too.
To add a new idea, I've never seen a toothpick made by you. It might look pretty "European" to you...but a bareheaded single blade (or eventually two blade) toothpick would certainly be a nice pattern to bring to Blade Show...

I'm currently in the market for a knife to carry to a wedding - a formal wear knife. The Tuxedo knife pattern just doesn't do it for me.

Here's what I'd like to see:

Bow-Tie Shield
Basically a propeller shield turned 90 degrees. Kinda goofy and fun.

Regular Jack Pattern
A regular Jack pattern might seem too common, not special enough, for formal wear. A swayback might be the more traditional choice for a gentleman's knife. But I like the clean symmetry of the regular jack. Also, a regular jack has a head, which seems ideal for a knife wearing a bow-tie shield.

Smooth Black Bone Handle Material
I think ebony would look great with a shiny bow-tie. But ebony was not one of the choices listed, so I think smooth black bone would be the most like ebony. Black handle, shiny shield goes with the formal wear theme.

Single blade
The knife should be light and small enough for the pockets of a vest or tuxedo pants, so skip the extra weight of a second blade.

3.25-inch closed length
Also for the same weight and size reasons as above, I'd want to keep it reasonable small. For me, knives shorter than 3 inches start to feel fragile.

Wharncliffe Blade
It's a classy, versatile blade shape. It also adds some pizazz to an understated knife.

CPM 154cm
I like tool steels, but "tool steel" is contrary in thought to "tuxedo knife".

I would also like to see a long pull, which I think goes along with the clean, understated look. And the blade, bolsters and liners should all have the same polish.

Alright, just to be contrary, I'll modify my suggestion to a single-spring, 3.5" 2-blade canoe with ivory scales and CPM154cm steel instead.

I'm suggesting this because I've never seen the pattern custom made and would like to:

Canoe

Number of blades, limited to 2. Can be a Jack, pen, double ended Jack. Single spring, single spring with catch-bit, two springs, etc.
Two on a single spring

Blade Steel, limited to air quench steels, A2, D2, 154cm, CPM154cm, ATS-34 etc.
D2

Closed length
3.5"

Scale material, limited to Bone, Ivory, Stag, certain Micarta and G10
Bone

Ken-how about a swingguard in D2 about 4 inches closed, similar to a Case Cheetah-doesn't have to be a lockback though. Done in some nice stag or vintage look bone, with a double bomb shield.
