Thank you, Ken.

This (as Supernatorial said) is a nice contest.

Last night and early this morning, I spent some very enjoyable time browsing through the "Elusive Schrades" thread started by Waynorth (in Feb, 2009) with many wonderful and rare old Schrades posted by Charlie, Mark Nagle (maybe Nagle pics posted by Charlie?) and many others.

I suggest making #35 in Waynorth's "Elusive Schrades" thread for Blade.

I have always liked this 4 1/2" English Jack with beautiful jigged bone and the Bomb (??) Shield. I especially like the Long pull and Swedge on the main Clip blade.

This knife has two Bolsters. The almost 3/4" long threaded top Bolster is absolutely stunning. This is the icing.

I had hoped to post the picture of #35 from Waynorth's thread, but my meager skills are not up to the task.

I want to thank Charlie (Waynorth) for his many wonderful Contributions to BF, but "Elusive Schrades" is one of my favorites.

Several of the other suggestions are also inspired by Charlie's thread.

Oh Yeah, I guess I should mention that this is all about Ken and his eternal quest for challenge.

How about an old english design...a lambsfoot? really nice design and not very common with any makers I've seen. I'd say either a single blade with a deep brown jigged bone and deeply fluted bolster or have an additional pen knife as some had. 3.25" closed with blade steel should be something that'll see a patina. :)

This is my one made by Richard Groves & Sons Ltd.

Here's a couple. Tear Drop Jack 3-1/2 or 3-5/8 with a nice full Clip blade or maybe a
Equal End Jack with a Clip. Both are great old patterns, nice round edges and a great carry.
You can use jigged bone or some nice ebony and they'll be perfect.

Thanks for the chance. Hopefully I can get this one in before the deadline.

My idea is a Whittling Jack.

Two blades, one of them a 2 in. wharncliffe the other a 3-3.25 spear point blade. Both out of A2, and both on the same end.
Closed length of 4"
Two springs
Steel liners
If the knife can have bolsters, then I'd go with dark green jigged bone scales. If it can't have bolsters, I'd go with whatever green color micarta you can do. No shield.

I'm thinking it would pretty much be a scaled up Case Small Texas Jack, but with a handle that's slightly out of proportion. I know it seems weird, but it seems the folders I use for whittling have the blades I want, but the handle is just too small. Something closer to 4"closed would give you a bit more to hold on to without being too big for the pocket.

A whole mass of interesting suggestions! Been a pleasure to read.

My suggestions. NORFOLK A2 Stag, Bar shield. SENATOR in Dark Red peach kernel jig bone, all stainless. EQUAL END Clip/Cope, White smooth Bone/Ivory/Antique Micarta. Stainless polished.

All single-spring naturally

Best wishes, Will

I wonder if by now Ken still thinks this thread is a great idea ? So many fine examples and ideas put forward, deciding which one to choose will not be easy. Which ever one Ken chooses, i'm sure none of us will feel too let down because this has been an interesting exercise for all.

Well, I haven't seen my recommendation yet...

I'd like to see a full sized Dr. pattern with spatula. Either 154cm or cpm154, and sambar stag or at least some nice jigged bone.

Here's one for ya Ken, Schrade Cut. Co. balloon pattern jack. This one's got a solid butt similar to the pruner you just did, 4 inches long with brown jigged bone covers. Bomb shield would probably work as well as the gimp. Steel would be builder's choice. Sorry for the blurry pic :o

First I wanted to thank EVERYONE for their very thoughtful suggestions! This one was very tough for me to choose but the winner of the 33OT is Eric with this suggestion. I wish I had a knife for everyone that took the time to read this thread and suggest a knife. I will be referring back to this thread often in the years to come, when I decide to build a new pattern.

This knife has that extra bit of complexity with the sealed end cap along with very classic good looks.

Thanks again everyone for your input!

Excellent choice Ken. It's a very classy (and very rare) knife that Eric posted. Hopefully you will post pics of your version when it's completed.

Thank you guys! I will post pictures of the finished knife here.

Roland,

I gave the little sleeveboard SERIOUS consideration. I have no doubt I will build that knife in the future.

I'd like to see a Ken Ericson "knutbuster" - the handle material could do with any of your options (as you can see) and i think a tool steel would be most appropriate , preferably A2

Khnutbusters 8, 10, & 11. #8 has brown bone that I dyed and jigged(first bone Khnutbuster), #10 is green canvas Micarta, #11 is hunter orange fibermascus. All of the knives are made with D2 blades and springs. Also, these are the first Khutbusters I have put shields in.

Congratulations Eric on winning the 330T! :D and I cannot wait to see Ken bring that one to life on his work bench.

When I have more cash I may have to commission Ken with my suggestion! ;)

Thanks guys, and thank YOU Ken! I haven't been on the 'puter in a few days so this is very nice to open up to! It's a great pattern for sure, and more than a little challenging

Eric

My suggestion is a Barlow..
Instead of the secondary small pen blade thats on most Barlows,, use a larger sheepsfoot blade...I seen a picture of one on the forum and ever since I thought that was the perfect combo..Thanks for the chance..
