Post Holiday Clearance thread for Walmart 2007 holiday tins

At $21.00 per knife. By the time you add tax, shipping and insurance it will cost pretty close to $30.00. It might be a little cheaper if you shipped multiple knives to the same address.

Son in law just called and said his local wally had three tins left and down to the $21. Told him to buy all three and I would pay him for them. He said he may want one so told him I would sell one back to him for $25.

Its nice to have a son in law you can joke with.

The Walmart in Jasper, Indiana had eleven of the Buck 110 tins left at $21.00 each. I just bought three and there were still eight of them left.

Looked all over the local walmart on 1/1 and did not find any of the tin set knives, buck, gerber or anything else, did not ask but assumed they were sent back to warehouse. Or I may see them soon at gunshows for sale for $45 each.

Checked my Walmart today and they had about 8. I think I will get a couple tomorrow.

They will be worth more than the $21. And will always make a great gift.

I agree with that... considering a stock 110 at Walmart is about $26, how can you go wrong? I ordered online, a 110 aniversary and a Buck bolt set (3 slippies) at $30 each delivered, I think it was worth it. Since, they don;t seem to have any in New England. The 110 is very nice, mirror polish blade, very purrdy :D

I did get two and found out that they have about 10 or 12 still left. Seems that a box of them got put aside because of space and they just found the box. They are marked down to $21.

I have seen the christmas tin 110s now showing up on ebay, one buyer has a buyit now price of $38.95 with 7.95 shipping. Yesterday walmart.com still had them listed for $30 with free shipping to the store.

I wrote an email to Walmart questioning why they have not marked down the 110 tins on line as they have in the stores. It took three days to get an anwser ( got it last Friday), and they stated pricing is different in different areas of the country based on local demand but they would review this item....well today they did finally mark it down SOME on line......http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=7977519

Tom, could you write them back and see if you can get them to knock it down a little more? They were selling old stock last year for $12 or $14 dollars and that is how much I want to pay. Let us know what they say.

Thanks

Silerdagger...I asked they why they were not $21 and they went down to $26...I don't know what else I can say to them. One thing I must say though, Walmart has a tendancy to "charge back" it suppliers and I think these knives are well worth the $30 they were selling for. I would love to get $12 or $14 dollar ones if Walmart eats the loss, BUT as I understand it they charge back the supplier when they have to mark down items and they beat them up worse next year if there is a lot marked down...I have too much respect for Buck and their great customer service to see them get the shaft....

I didn't see any Buck tins at any Wal-Marts (I checked 4) before Christmas. None after either.

I saw about 20 of the buck tins yesterday on the shelf. Marked down to $21. I'm waiting for them to go lower.

Walmart would have already paid Buck much lower than the price at markdown at this point. Walmart probably had negoitated a $10-$12 per knife.

Walmart buys from suppliers with the understanding they are paying this price for an item to be sold at this price, and Walmart holds a part of the payment for awhile and then takes charges against the balance they are holding if they have to reduce the selling price. They may or may not do this with Buck, but I know others that they do it to......They feel yiu have to play by their rules and the percentage of mark up remains the same. In a post on the 2005 tins there was a quote form I believe Joe Houser that stated he hoped that Wlamart did not have to mark down many of the 2006 tins because they could take the "hit".....

I've wondered if anyone is doing themselves a favor hoping Walmart gets stuck with alot of knives they then need to mark down at give away prices. It certainly provides the opportunity for a short term benefit, but in the long term, seems like Walmart will just stop carrying these types of items in the future.

Perhaps that is why so many people have a problem finding them in their local stores.

If you think $30 is a fair price to pay for a product, is there anything wrong with paying that price?

Buck provides exceptional customer service. If market forces result in Buck having to cut some corners to stay in business,
has anyone truely profited? I know there would be no way to ever replace that service if it was to go away.

Of course, I guess this is all part of a larger debate about what is going on in the U.S.

Stopped by local walmart this morning, asked at the sports counter about the christmas knifes, was led the to aisle that had the clearance items for the sports dept and found two last 110 tins, one had the knife stolen out of it but the other was still there. Was just marked down to $15, needless to say I bought it.
