The anticipation of owning my first Spyderco has become almost a mystical experience for me. Is this normal? Am I normal?

I tell you what; I ordered my Lightweight Calypso only yesterday and already I'm fit to be tied. I've just got to get my hands on that thing!

How do you guys stand it, the waiting and waiting and . . . looking at your watch every 15 seconds for a week?

And do you make desired knives into computer wallpaper?

Purchased mine from a local dealer. The shaking and sweating lasted only a moment. Hang in there you'll make.......I think.

Try this for raising the old blood pressure.
The wife has a Spyderco "Q" while I have no Spderco's. A while back I had the fantastic luck to win a Syderco Starmate on the Spyderco forum. I jumped up and down, woke the wife (2 am and not really apprecative) and sent off a thank you email with my name and address. A week later I see on the spyderco forum that Sal is still waiting for my shipping info. I resent it to him and Michelle, now I wait...again. Will it be here today...Have they shipped it yet..have they recieved my info at all or do they think I don't want it??
Top that!

Uncle Bill I have a hard time waiting for any knife to be delivered no matter what it is or what the cost. Each knife is special to me and I don't know if I will ever get over that feeling. Or if you will I don't know how some of these guys do order a knife and wait for weeks or even months it would drive me up a palm tree in my shorts.

Day two, and my disorder is slowing becoming evident to those around me. To be sure, the changes are extremely subtle, but those closest to me are beginning to notice. This morning my wife, God bless her, said, "Why are you brushing your hair with the kitty litter scoop?"

Hilarious!

This is just part of the fun. Enjoy the anticipation. I do each and every time.

A couple of years ago, I didn't own any Spydercos and I saw one I had to have. It was way over $100 at the best discount places and It took me about a year of shopping internet, knife stores and gun shows to find my perfect Spydie at the perfect price. Imagine my anticipation on that one. It was great! That's still my favorite knife.

Uncle Bill,
I'm in the same boat right now. I ordered a Starmate and had it shipped overnight express. That was last Monday still. UPS doesn't know where the package is right now. The last known scan was on Tuesday morning. I keep myself sane by downloading pictures of the knife.

. This is the last time I'm ordering a knife! (Famous last words)

I keep waiting for that SAK credit card I ordered from the Globe for $5. Seems like months ago...

In the meantime I've got machetes comin' Just sent an order in this morining to Barteaux. 2 machetes, 3 knives, 2 sheaths. Why haven't they delivered it yet? Maybe they will be there when I get home. Ok, ok, PROBABLY not.

I can relate.
I have longed for and salivated over the Sebenza for a looooooooooooong time.
About 2 weeks ago I learned of one available for a "discount" and I got in touch with the individual first. Sight unseen I made a deal with him and that weekend I was on my way to get it(I am so glad I did).
Anyway, that 5 days of waiting were the longest and most excruciating of my life. I must have called him once a day to make sure he did not change his mind or get a better offer. He did but kept with our original deal(Thanks William).
I will say though that it was not until I had the Seb in my hands and he had the cash in his that I felt 100% secure(safe) about the transaction.
I have bought knives via mail order as well and I can attest to the agony of the wait and the joy of opening your package and seeing your new "toy".
Good luck Uncle Bill and let us know when you get it.

It doesn't matter if I have a knife on order or not. Everytime I see one of those brown trucks drive down my street my mouth starts to water. Usually I'll end up ordering a knife the next day. Pavlov strikes again! Sometimes I wonder - is it getting and using the knife or just the thrill of the hunt?

I just got my Starmate this morning!! Sal had it sent next day air! Bless him.
I don't think the wait for a knife ever gets easier and I don't think it should. Part of the whole experience is the anticipation.
Uncle Bill if it's to long of a wait you'll start pulling out hair whenever a delivery truck passes by your house

grnamin... You are gonna love the Starmate. A great solidly built user of a knife. A definite keeper guys.

Bill, I can certainly empathize. I'm sitting here waiting for yet another HI khukuri, a prize from the trivia contest, and some goodies from the October Knife of the Month selections. Well, maybe "sitting" is not exactly accurate -- I find myself heading for the window whenever I hear a truck coming down the street.

Here's a little haiku that Corduroy posted some time back:
Big Brown Truck of joy...
I tremble at your approach.
Not stopping? You suck!
As you can tell, I liked it so much that a saved a copy. Hang in there. The truck will eventually stop.

And you think you guys are badly off.

Try being on the other side of the Atlantic and worrying for days wether the customs at this end have taken a shine to your box and are busy filling out HUGE bills for you to pay before you can get your hands on the goodies.

Anybody else out there got anything on order from JSP? I'm S L O W L Y approaching the 3 year mark!

Seriously, I can never wait to get a new knife in my hands!

Bagman on the other side of the Pond isn't the only one who has to worry about customs. Anything coming over the border into Canada, unless it's a gift or creatively packaged and labelled, gets whacked with 15% in PST and GST{taxes, and more taxes] and to add insult and injury to insult and injury, a "customs brokerage charge", unless you use UPS air, which costs about the same anyway. That puts a bit of a damper on the joy of anticipation, but not enough to kill the joy completely. What the heck happened to Free Trade anyway? I'm currently waiting for some Busse's, a Britton and a Polkowski. When I think of the knives, I feel like Santa's coming. When I think of the ripoff at the border, I think I'm a complete fool.
Re: three years for a JSP? If the wait were shorter, I would have ordered a rig. I've been on a 4 year waiting list for some Limmer boots, and that has been more than a little frustrating. But there is something to be said for planning ahead...

Day three is almost over now. When the mail carrier came by at noon without a package, I developed a twitch in my right thumb, a sort of flicking open motion. It's been growing worse all evening. Just now, in fact, it twitched so violently that Calvin, my 15-lb. Maine Coon, fled the room in terror. He must know what's coming.

And, then, there is the trauma of disappointment

Allrighty then Uncle Bill! I see you like coon cats too. Mines "Rocky racoon cat".

I've said before that anticipation was sweet but 2 months anticipation for a sifu... And you guys with 2-4 years wait for something? I figure I'll be dead by then.
