post-order anticipation/anxiety/euphoria

I've read some really funny things on BF, but that haiku was hands down the funniest! My wife and I were howling! As for waiting, I'm inclined to believe that the hunt eclipses the arrival. I really get off on the research and anticipation that preceeds the arrival of any of my knives. If I have nothing on order and no prospective purchase in the works I feel kind of empty inside. I'm currently waiting for a Dozier Pro Skinner, which may arrive this week (I hope!). After that, no new knives until Lynn tells me my Griffith Large Hunter is ready (December). With a major hunting trip planned for November, my mind will probably be occupied enough for me to survive. My biggest problem is that the Griffith will complete my originally spec'd collection. After that, I guess I need to create some more criteria to justify new purchases/trades! Here's another haiku:
No new knife today.
Will Visa raise my limit?
They said "no". They suck.

Speaking of waiting and one's first Spyderco...I thought I could handle the wait for the Spydie Wegner. I thought the wait would be over before I even knew it. It's now over a week since the knife started haunting my every waking hour. At approximately 1 pm, the mail is being delivered and I just sit tight and listen for steps in the corridor, the closing-in creaks of opening mailslots...COULD IT BE?! "Mailman come door, ga-ga". I have never felt like chewing my fingernails, but if I had, there would have been lots of airborne ceratine fragments in our little example story. But no, it's always some...some...the forum software would replace the word with four asterisks. The last time was the worst. I was just about to fall asleep (my late high noon nap) and I felt the dream sequences kicking in ("Oh, hi redhead...") and suddenly *creak* *rustle* *thump* and I jumped out of the bed, ran (with four legs, if I remember correctly) to the door and I find (drummers get crazy at this part) religious and communist
propaganda! Oh my...I think I'm gonna..."Quick, bring in the smelling salt! The Countess has fainted!"

Tomorrow is another weekday (someone should really walk into a post office with a bullwhip and crack it a few times until we would get our mail on weekends, too. And faster, dammit!) and that means more agony and anticipation

I've found that when waiting for a knife, ordering free knife catalogs at few days intervals can keep you sane for a little bit longer

Two important questions in life:
Do they have a catalog?
Did you know there's a town called "Batman" in Turkey?

I got a temporary fix yesterday when the USPS dropped off my new HI khukuri, a 16" gray horn handled Sirupati model. However, I'm still waiting for a prize from the trivia contest, some goodies from the October Knife of the Month selections, and a Spydie folder from a fellow forumite. There's something to be said for the immediate satisfaction of buying stuff at a retail outlet.

I may be goin' to hell in a bucket, Babe, but at least I'm enjoyin' the ride.
