Post Up Your NEW Gear ...

You will get faster results if you use flatbands. (Theraband gold, silver, black). So for hunting I would recommend those over tubing any time. The Flippinout slingshot is great as it will allow you to use it with flatbands as well.

X2. I've got Thera golds on mine, not the tubular bands in the pic.

I've been eyeballing Mountain Hardwear's Ghost Whisperer windshirt for sometime now, at under 2.0 oz it's the lightest windshirt out there. The $150 price tag kept me away. Happens that sierra trading post now has them and I got a 40% off coupon (that's 40% off of their already discounted price of 30% off) the other day, so I bit. This won't replace my near and dear Houdini windshirt, but I wanted something that would pack extra, extra small that I could stash in my smaller single bottle pack- I think this will work :D

yeah your right :D

you should see the looks I get when I go through airport security when I have all my Perpetuem (white powder) bagged up into small bags, right along side w/ my electrolyte capsules packed into small baggies, nice to have a badge when you get that look :)

Interesting bit of kit Mike. You've just given me a bunch of crash reading. Lighter than Pertex Quantum, that's some feat. I don't have any use for it and from what I've read the necessity for long sleeves under it to defeat the clinging feeling when you've got a head of steam up isn't something I'm smitten by, but it is fascinating tech. I want to see their duvet jacket in person now 'cos I gather you can see the viscera when you hold it up to the light.

I've got their Ghost Whisperer down jacket as well (another good sale about 3 months ago :D), I had a Montbell Ex-light down jacket that was a little lighter yet, BUT it didn't have a hood, didn't have a drawstring waist and didn't have pockets- I think the MH also has a bit more fill as well- all this for only about an ounce more

the MB was a nice jacket, I think the MH one is even better :)

evidently the 7D x 10D ripstop is only manufactured at one place, I know a lot of cottage industry businesses are trying to get their hands on some, but they are finding it very difficult to get (probably because of the volume that MH does)

Someone mentioned Mountain Hardware so I was on their site and came across this just a day or 2 ago. Interested in your thoughts as I have a Houdini as well and I love it!

Just got a Exotac Matchcap XL. Here it is with a piece of fatwood, a dozen stormproof matches, and spare firesteel. With some room left in the cap, I think I'll put a couple of PJCBs in there.

I have a Houdini as well and don't see this as a replacement- the Houdini has a hood (good hood at that), full zip, drawstring waist and a zip pocket- the MH has none of those, I see the Ghost as when you need to carry something and you've only got a little room (ie my single water bottle waist pack), otherwise I'd carry the Houdini

Exotac makes some beautiful stuff. I have the regular size Match Cap and a Nanostriker. I'm amazed that a company would put this much effort and engineering into something like a match case, but more power to 'em. It's the nicest match case I've ever laid eyes on.

Agreed. And when I found out that the XL was offered in type-III hard anodizing, it just made the decision that much easier for me.

Recent stuff:
dscn5375q.jpg

-Nike "Golfer" cap. Breathable, and doesn't absorb moisture. Used riding my bike and on a couple of hikes already, and am liking it.
-Evernew "bottles" compatible with Sawyer Squeeze filter
-Icebreaker Bodyfit 150 L/S T. Snug fit through the chest even in XL, and have to get the sleeves shortened 2-3" or so...
GUARANTEED to be the most comfortable, best performing base layer system in the world!:triumphant:
They're not shy, are they? Not going to replace Capilene 1 in damp conditions, but I'm pretty sure this will be on the "most loved" list before long.
-Point 6 lightweight "Hiking Core" crew length merino socks x4, since my mountain of merino socks wasn't tall enough:rolleyes:
-Road Atlas
-Book of popular waterfalls in NC
-Trails Illustrated map from recent Big South Fork trip

The Icebreaker top was a Christmas gift(though I actually bought it), as was the Atlas. Got a $50 gift card for a local outdoor store, too.
Merry Christmas, everybody!
