thanks! on the last overnighter a friend accidentally tipped my emberlit over with his foot but zero damage. that got me thinking how much i really like it and want to make sure i have a backup stashed in my gear box just in case.

For what they do, they really take up no space and add very little weight. I like the new stamped embosses but I've never found the unemboissed one to be anything less than sturdy.

Fatboy, Mini Pocket Organizer and several patches to make my outdoor bag. Until now I used my Maxpedition Jumbo EDC for that, but I hate it to remove the stuff for EDC and replace it for the outdoor stuff.... so here I am :D

Arrived Monday, first use Tuesday night and 9F. If my trip hadn't been cut short, I'd be on it again a couple of hours from now...

Had both threads open in different windows, and put this in the W&SS sticky yesterday, but...to complement the above:
Katabatic Palisade 6' Wide size quilt.

And a new Sawyer Squeeze filter. Forgot to get mine out of the pocket of my pack this past week until I woke up ~3am. Put it in my bag with me then, but it was probably way too late for it to be ok :(

^^^Damn JV! I always thought of myself as a bit of a gadget guy, or even a gear whore, but hell man, you get the crown! LOL This thread is digital proof!

Yeah, probably. The good news is, it's not much more than $20 to replace  The last time it was around freezing when I was out, I definitely had to remember to take it in my quilt with me. It does take conscious effort.

Good scores all around!

Smithhammer, I've been using my HPG Runner's Kit Bag on my last few hikes. The regular kit bag and the runner's each have their advantages, but I think I prefer the runner's for most of my uses just because of how compact it is. It even fits under my Houdini so donning and doffing layers beyond base is now much easier/faster  Took some pics on last hike, will post em later.

Good the know! I'd love to see some comparison pics when you get a chance. Love my Kit Bag, but there are times when something slimmer would be nice.

I figure for now, some actual-use pics would work vs. me stuffing random stuff in both bags for the sake of direct comparison pics. I'll get around to doing that this weekend if I have time. Anyway, here's the HPG regular kit bag packed up more or less with the stuff shown in this post:

Here is the HPG Runner's Kit bag, shown with Houdini worn over it (nice!) and side profile shot. There is less stuff in the RKB, most notably the Bothy is replaced with a AMK 2-person heatsheet + beeswax tea-light, and the other emergency stuff was streamlined a bit. The knife won't fit, but my ZL headlamp still does. I'll get around to doing a contents dump sometime. But basically, I feel like I'm still able to carry the important things I want in the RKB while keeping it compact. Pretty nice set-up, and probably will be my main "on-person" kit for the foreseeable future.

haha! i'm still in the process of experimentation and weeding out the gear that's why all the purchases. this year will slow down significantly since i've settled on which shelters/backpacks/etc. i really like and i'll just be buying duplicates or replacing worn items as i go from now on.

i only started hiking 4 years ago - jansport backpack, hardware store tarp, home depot wooden dowels as my trekking poles, etc. :D

I just got this in. My newest non-bushcraft-like bushcraft knife. lol
I'll have to get a nice, traditional scandi knife eventually, but I'm not 100% sure what I want. (or even what's available besides bark river an blind horse... yes I do have a mora, and so does the Mrs. :) )

Of course the grips are from TKC and makes the 3 much more comfortable in hand.

It's all good man, just giving you a little bit of needed grief in your life. I enjoy your posts. You're one of the few people that get out there and actually do it. I try to, but don't always have the funds. I want to move to southern Illinois, to be near the Shawnee National Forest. Living in the land of corn and beans sucks. I have to drive 3-4 hours to get to the woods. If I lived near the woods, I would be out in it all the time, even if it were to just go for a walk.

Thanks for the HPG pics, HM. I'm going to have to pick up with a Runner's or a Snubby sometime.
