Post Up Your NEW Gear ...

fiskars 21" bow saw...going to compare it to my bob dustrude 21" quick buck saw. if it's anywhere close in performance to it and for $10 it's a steal and cheap enough to stash somewhere i frequent instead of carrying it all the time. weigh is 18.5 oz compared to the dustrude's 15 oz.

I have this inbound from Jackson, WY. An old military Silva Type 6 graduated in mils. Induction dampening. Likely made for the military market --- and likely the Norwegian Army at that. Compass is Swede (Silva). Baseplate is Norwegean (Weswitco).

I have a thing for the old Silvas.

Nice find.
I have one of those. Marked With & Wessel, Oslo (an import firm).
With (in With and Wessel) is Bror With wich ivented the Rottefella ski binding in 1927.

finally found what looks like good quality insulated and waterproof work gloves - wells lamont hydrahyde. perfect timing for some cold & rainy overnighters...orange is a nice bonus :D

Osprey Talon 22 for day hikes and overnighters. Got it because I have been so impressed with my Osprey Kestrel 48. Once you experience Osprey's suspension system and their ergonomically contoured and cool airscape back panel you'll never look back or look elsewhere. I know I haven't.

I got the vargo triad stove and windscreen, its my first alcohol stove not sure how I feel about it yet, had it out this weekend. I boiled water for 2 dinners 2 cups each time and that took 2oz of alcohol. Another 2oz to boil water for a Nalgene bottle and partially heat a water for tea and another 2oz to finish the tea and make hot chocolate, 2oz in the morning for 4 packets of oatmeal and had to switch to canister gas to have tea. I've heard of people putting these things out to save fuel so I wonder if I'm doing something wrong. It also seemed to take a long time to bloom too maybe I was losing a lot of fuel because of that.

I guess I just assumed it would last longer or at least make a weekend, I've never used more than a canister for a 2 day 2 night trip or is that not a fair comparison?

did you pour a little fuel on the outside and lit it to pre-heat it? that's usually the standard procedure for alcohol stoves to get them to bloom faster. on that note, i'll show you my evernew stove...with their double chamber design thing it doesn't need a pre-heat and it blooms just seconds after lighting it.

I saw a video this morning that says to put the pot or cup on it and that forces it to bloom faster. I'll try that tonight when I get home and I was doing the trail down one of the legs to light it. Now we just got to get together so I can check out that stove :D

Just in from SwissBianco, coyote brown bushcrafter. The color looks more of a flat gold/bronze, I like it.

Woobie arrived just in time for the weekend. Heard a lot about this great blanket so thought I would try one. It's very lightweight. Looks pretty versatile.

I love the housing and the idea but how is the actual compass compared to a quality button compass (not one of the 99 cent Chinese ones)?

So far so good. It seems to be considerably more accurate and it seems to stay on point longer (doesn't bounce around as much as the cheap ones)
