Post Up Your NEW Gear ...

Here is the new one. Big Agnes Flying Diamond 8.
Now that is a tent. Any photos of the inside? I'm a Big Agnes fan myself, the Seedhouse SL2 is my main backpacking tent.

Anyway, got this in the mail yesterday. The Cammenga J582T Tritium wrist compass. I'll be using it for those familiar trails backpacking or mountain biking where a map compass or GPS isn't necessary. I don't like things on my wrist but you barely notice this guy since it weighs next to nothing. The convenience of just looking down at your wrist for a quick reading is great too.

Initial impressions are pretty good. I can't honestly say that this thing feels like it could withstand some serious abuse but it is made in the USA so that makes me feel a bit better. And it is very accurate so I guess that's the most important thing. Plus, the tritium inserts are really cool and work great in total darkness. I tried taking a photo in the dark but my camera wouldn't do it justice.

I didn't take a picture of the inside, however his is one looking in from the front.

There is a divider between the large main room and the smaller room on the back of the tent which is what you see in this pic.

I just received a Hennessy Expedition Hammock in the mail. I won't be able to give it a proper test until the middle of next month but I like what I see so far.

Vortex 10x25 monocular.

I wanted something I would actually carry and use. Love my small Nixon binoculars, but having them hanging from my neck and bouncing around was extremely annoying. This I can attach to my shoulder strap.

New blackburn front rack for my surly long haul trucker. It attaches to the bottom and middle of the fork so it doesn't interfer with the brakes or shift cables

made a really good score on some wool bits- found a new, unissued pair of Swedish whipcord pants and a really nice Swiss heavy, zip wool sweater

the pants compare very nicely to Filson whipcords, a little tighter weave than the Filsons- so they should shed water/wind a little better (but won't breathe quite as well), also just a slightly heavier weight wool (these weighed 1# 11 oz, my Filsons 1# 8 oz)- they're cut nice and roomy in the legs, come w/ suspender buttons (had to have them sewn on my Filsons) what I really like is the roomy cargo pockets, ~ 9.5" x 8" both sides

the sweater is a dandy- very heavy weight- I have a spendy (now discontinued) Patagonia guide sweater that is the heaviest sweater I've ever owned- the weight is just slightly less w/ the swiss one (2# 6 oz vs 2# 2 oz), the guide sweater is a crew neck, the swiss one has a nice long zip up front to vent w/

pants I got for $30 (the Filson's are starting to push the $200 mark these days!!), the sweater was $40- the Patagonia one if it was still produced would likely be approaching the $200 mark as well

It'll be a little more comforting woods bumming in these garments- little less worry about snags, pitch and flying embers :D

Just picked up an LWRCi M6A2 SPR, Benchmade Carbon Fiber Rift, and custom Oakley Straight Jacket

Nice Surly. I've been lusting after one for a while now.

I have wanted one since 2006-7 figured out what I wanted , how much it would cost to start saving. And they told us they were closing the plant I worked at :thumbdn: so that ended that . This spring I decided I needed to get into to shape . I could also use a newer bike , so I watched craigslist and found a surly steamroller for dirt cheap. He told me of a shop that had this bike . It is a new build built on a old stock frame . That got me the color I wanted I had 95% of what I planned to to put on my dream bike and was priced at about 1/2 what the parts should have cost because they used the high $$ parts that where not selling . I told them what extras I wanted on it and made an offer in cash they accepted
It has alot of shimno deore stuff , mavic rims, skor flat bar , shimano tiagra thumb shifters topeak rear rack with a trunk bag blackburn front rack, fenders , I love riding it

I have both an S1 and an F1. I have been wanting a 4.1...I am thinking of getting rid of my Bravo 1 for it. How does it stack up...oh and what steel did you get it in?

A knife like this GSO-4.1 is something I have been waiting a long time for. I have the M-390 steel. In fact I have an exact replica of the one I have coming my way. I could not do just one. Only thing it does not have that I like on the Fallkniven knives is the full rubber like grip. I like that the tang does not touch your hand on those knives. Doing a grey Kiahdex taco sheath with firesteel holder which should be arriving soon. Would love to have a Martin sheath as well. I have 2 for my F1s and 1 for my S1. They are awesome sheaths! Never got a Bravo as I thought they were simply too thick for my application (unnecessary weigh) and the tang did not protrude out the back for hammering.

This seemed like the best place to post these.

Just received my new Survive! Knives GSO 4.1 today. I wanted to show some size comparison pics of it next to some other popular outdoor/bushcraft knives of similar size.
Sorry for the low quality phone pics

As you can see it is very similar in size and shape to the BK16, another favorite of mine.

How does the BK16 Stack up against the 4.1? I thought about getting a BK16 with micarta. The steel is better on the 4.1 although 1095 when treated properly can be stellar and ESEE has proven that. At 2x the cost of a 16 with micarta scales are the differences of the 4.1 that significant?? Oh and how does the handle feel in comparison?

Hello mtwarden, do you know the brand name of your swedish wool pants ? I really like the look of them, thanks

no particular brand- they are Swedish Army surplus; mine were manufactured in the mid 70's and were new (unissued anyways :))- they've made them at least since the 50's, maybe earlier- the earlier ones have a button over slash pocket on the front pockets

evidently they also make a heavier wool pant in a similar style, I like the whipcord weight as you can use them 6+ months out of the year
