Post Up Your NEW Gear ...

I've used the Perpetuem mix before (sample gifted from a friend, unflavored though), tried HEED once or twice. Tried one perpetuem solid, this flavor and found it fine, so I figured I'd give a batch a go with them being on sale  I may get sick of the flavor by tab 50 or something though, haha, entirely possible :)

I know you (Mike) have had good experience with the mix, so I'm hoping I have a good experience as well. Decided on the solids for the long hot hikes and eventual runs. Plus I just want to avoid the hassle of mixing and more effort in bottle cleaning.

I'm going to have to go through my sample Hammer bag, there might be some solids in there and give them a try- I think it would really be handy on races that have adequate spaced aid stations where a person can get by w/ just carrying a single handheld for water- my long runs (or long races that are sparse on aid stations) I carry two bottles- one w/ water, one w/ Perpetuem

Yeah, I don't do races, so all my stuff is unsupported. I just think the solids would be easier. How thick do you do your mix for races? You're only using a 20oz or less handheld, right?

The only thing about the solids is the cost, quite higher than the mix. Not something I really want to buy forever, not at retail anyway. That and it certainly is a chewy mouthful, a little more work to ingest frequently.

yup- 20 oz bottle, I mix 2 scoops w/ the bottle-usually plan on having the bottle last ~ 2 hours (I'll carry additional pre-measured bags as needed)-it's not my only calories though- I chew a Clif Blok ~ every 20 minutes and eat a 1/2 of a Hammer bar every hour

lately I've been mixing one scoop HEED w/ one scoop Perpetuem- the HEED straight is a little too sweet for me, the unflavored Perpetuem cuts down on the sweetness

just mixed a bottle up and headed out for a 16 mile run :D

Ah, yes, the Clif Bloks are good for taste supplement. I like the non-caffeinated ones and the margarita for the extra sodium (almost as much as a saltstick, still meaning to try endurolytes, on that front). I'll have to play around more to see what works for me, now that I'm getting into fuel supplements.

Have fun!

I finally got a half way decent knife, now I can actually get out and try this "bushcraft" thing I've been hearing so much about!

Yeah I think he might have written some books or something, thinks he knows all about the woods I guess ;)

I have to keep reminding myself that these things are not like potato chips or knives. I just bought this used (15 years old) and have only taken it out on two eight-mile pool-drop river runs so far, but I am learning it's nuances. Bell Canoe Works 15' 6" composite solo canoe with three stations so that it can be used as a light tandem. Weight is sub-50#.

Thanks. It is a whole new experience for an old Codger to paddle a canoe designed to perform responsively. I have paddled quite a variety since the mid 1960's, but never anything like this. Remember when you learned that you could ride a bike with no hands and turn it by leaning? Yeah this. :)

since ethan becker designed the figure 8 i think it's only fitting that the knife that's on my harness is a becker too :)

Nice, I Love the BK10, it's always been my favorite Becker.

thanks! i had a bk-10le and sold it two years ago to a friend, thinking i'll like the tweeners better...i didn't so i'm back to a bk-10. i like the new coating too and the sheath is better than the previous ones - looks like i picked the right time to pick up another becker.
