Boils water really quick. About two minutes.
Considered the titanium version but couldn't justify the extra $40 for only a 6 ounce weight reduction. :)

Mine should be here tomorrow. I applied the same reasoning. ;)

Abe Elias / Diving Sparrow Knife Works - Prairie Pup (3" blade) with his kydex. Has a generous handle length and his handle contours are comfy!

Nice

New on my end over the past month or two, but no pics yet:

Real Deal Tarp Hat
Mountain Hardwear Quasar Pullover (2nd hand but like new, yay for affordable eVent)
Montbell Versalite Pants
Kuiu Superdown Hooded Jacket
Dirty Girl Gaiters
Big Dig Trowel (never thought the day would come that I'd buy a Ti cathole digger...)
Couple pairs Injinji Trail 2.0 socks
more Permethrin

Within a month:

BRKT Ultra-lite Bushcrafter
Ultimate Direction SJ Vest

@hikingmano: we demand pics! :D that's funny about the titanium trowel. people will often say "just use a stick", etc. but that takes a long time so you have to do it way ahead of time so it's almost impossible to dig a proper depth if you're on the move rather than overnighting...then there's the hard soil full of roots and pebbles. i'll probably buy one too.

i'm on an axe buying spree lately...gransfors bruks hunter's axe.

...and small forest axe.

my wildlife hatchet's handle piqued my curiosity so i'm going to do a chop off to see if i like the hunter or sfa better.

You and your GB axe buying spree... soooo envious :)

Pics will be coming soon, in use . Got another trip next week. Have been getting really lazy about posting pics from trips and stuff lately in the Outdoor Pic thread... gotta get back on it.

I've "been there, done that" with using a trekking pole, found stick, rock for cathole digging. No thanks, not if you want to do a proper job anyway, like you said. A solid stick (like a real digging stick, Hawaiian 'O'o style) is useful for loosening soil, but not so much for moving it in my experience. Sure you could use your hands, but it adds to your cleaning process afterwards. Furthermore, the difficulty when you're dealing with roots seems exponential... and one doesn't always have time or an environment conducive to finding the nice, easily dug spots. Been using the Montbell trowel til now, but looking forward to the thinner edge and bigger scoop of the Big Dig, all for a lighter weight too. Not lighter on the wallet though, haha. Anyway, I think if you're ok with dropping the money for a Ti sh!t-hole digger, you'll enjoy it :)

Just got my BRKT Ultra-Lite Bushcrafter. Very nice little knife, and I think a good replacement for the Fallkniven WM1 I had. I foresee lots of use being put on this little guy, backpacking and hiking. Initial impressions are good so far; knife is light as hell and nice and thin while retaining pretty good ergos, seems to fit well enough in my most used grips, fit and finish is flawless. Won't know for sure until I use it for a bit though, of course, and see how the 3V does. It's pictured below with some Moras for comparison (including my super handy gifted #612 that I keep meaning to chop the guard off of to make it a #2...) and my trusty Fallkniven F1.

My biggest fear is that the handle will prove too small for safe/comfortable use; time will tell. I also forgot how slippery Micarta can be, after using Thermorun and whatever material is on the modern Moras for a good while. And the relatively smooth wood isn't a problem on the #612 because of the nice barrel handle. The The Mora Companion has a grippy and hand-filling handle, and it would be sufficient in backpacking/hiking for the same weight (2.7oz)... Anyway, I hope it works out, since I've been trying pretty hard to keep myself to only one or two high quality belt knives (the Moras are too inexpensive to not pick up one or two more on occasion :D).

Got the EEP treatment for the Sharpshooter sheath (which is pretty nice). Will have to improvise a carabiner dangler or similar for backpacking until I can have a kydex dangler sheath made for it. Would work as a neck knife, but I don't like wearing stuff around my neck and I wear a HPG Kit Bag, which would be in the way somewhat. I may just end up sticking it in the Kit Bag, but I like having it slightly more accessible on the belt. I like the leather stock sheath though for day hiking, keeps it nice and trim on the belt.

I have been lurking around drooling for a while and have gained and lost a fair amount of gear with never posting anything so i decided to post up some of what i have right now.

This is a Kuhl coffena jacket. Not that durable or warm but just enough for still chilly morning (above freezing) it packs down into the side pockets of my new backpack and fits really well.

my new cold steel voyager, my favorite knife they make, light for the size, stong and not all that stiking other than the size. And my new baby, my kershaw echalon :)

This is the folded view of my Vapor Eclipse collapsible bottle, my favorite folding bottle and just over an ounce with out the carabiner, not going to replace my nalgeen or the plan to try some metal bottles but over all awesome.

I have been trying out both the tea candle and the original UCO candle lanterns. I prefure the original but both are good at lighting and the original kept my car from frosting one night.

Trek 700 from snow peak, i also have the double wall 450 and i love both as well as the MSR pocket rocket: It's not the lightest thing in the world but its fast and reliable.

My new Tarp for my hammocking setup, i was going to try it out tonight but i set it up and went inside to brab my ground sleeping gear come out and my dog had ripped it in half... lucky i have some extra money to get a new one so ill just make stuff sacks or a pack cover or something with it. but while it was up it seemed well makde and HUGE for 2.25 pounds and it comes with stakes and line, not bad for 50 bucks.

If/when you get a chance can we see it in a stuff sack next to a nalgene or something similar please? Congrats on the great purchase. They seem like awesome bags.

thanks! i actually didn't buy the compression stuff sack for it. i want to try just putting it in the bottom of my pack and letting the rest of my stuff compress it to see if that's a better way to pack it.

here's a pic by spoolup that i saved awhile back though:

Oh the good times, to bad I am more of a hanger now, but yes, Kifaru gear is great. Not so much for your pocketbook, but its hard to beat. FYI for those interested, here is a post from that photo, its a few years old, but still have not found anything like it. Great bag JV3, Im sure you will like it, FYI even if your wet, the bag will still work and oddly you will awake dry. Its the only bag I have had that experience in. The rhino skin and climashield will wick the moisture away from you. To be honest, Im thinking of purchasing a sewing machine just to try my hand at a similar design Hammock insulation.

That works very well, it's the only way I pack my bags or quilts now (along with a pack liner, of course). Works better with down, but you shouldn't have too much of a problem with the synthetic. Did you not have any interest in trying the water-resistant down insulation that's been coming out? I have an eye on upgrading my Enlightened Equipment quilt to their new DownTek quilts... that along with my QuixDown jacket from Kuiu should give me a solid insulation buffer against cold&wet while maintaining low weight, high compressibility (when needed), and high long term durability after compression cycles. I hope the tech lives up the expectations, but no way to know for sure short of trying it myself...

Thanks, Smithhammer! Used it for the first time backpacking the Lost Coast last weekend; I REALLY enjoyed it. Huge performer for its size and weight, very much happy with it so far :) I kept it in the front pocket of my HPG Kit Bag when not in use or carried on the belt - so nice to have it be so compact  If I remember correctly, you were one of the guys that pushed me over to trying one, so thank YOU!

I'm debating an Enigma, too, but it's $$$. Knowing me, it'll be a few years before I go on another backpacking shopping spree, but even with stuff available now, upgrading to a quilt and lighter pad will knock 2lbs off my load. 'Course I don't really notice my load at this point, so the money is probably better spent elsewhere.

Bought these shorts at the LBS after a ride last week, so I'd have something to wear under softshell or wind pants in cold weather. The padding is great, and they're very comfortable. Been wearing them for "fitness" rides for 3 days straight, and expect to do another one, or a trail, tomorrow. I'd been suffering some discomfort that was keeping me from riding back to back days, but no more-that's a big deal, because my endurance needs work with all the hills and rough trails I'm riding.

I hear ya. I want to pick up the Enigma mostly to get a warmer quilt that adds a little more safety in wet and cold shoulders, keep my current normal down 30* quilt for summer and early shoulders. But it is a pretty penny, especially if I don't discount it by selling off gear (not much to sell off these days now that I've refined and trimmed down quite a bit over the past few years). I'm thinking if I don't get myself one for Xmas, perhaps tax rebate would do the trick...
