Post Up Your NEW Gear ...

Thanks for posting those pics JV3. I've been eyeing one of those...size and weight seemed right.

Specs?
And images of it set up?

5 ft x 9 ft 4 in (112" x 60"). tarp alone is 9 oz. 16' orange cordage and seam sealant included in the package. pricey though at $108...for that price look at bcusa's 10'x10' as well for around $120. this one will replace my bcusa's 5'x7' mest emergency tarp for day hiking...and i'm just a sucker for shelter - i have by far more shelters than knives :D

i haven't used it yet (currently waiting for the seam sealer to cure but i might hike tomorrow) but here are kifaru's pics:

...and an el capitan khaki to celebrate tommy caldwell and kevin jorgeson's accomplishment as the first to free climb el capitan's dawn wall wednesday of last week :) fitting since i'm now 3 months into a new job with the best company i've been with so far...i'm climbing the corporate ladder - not el capitan but close enough for me :D

I received this a few weeks ago, but yesterday was the first time I used it. It slices through weeds and sagebrush very well because it is so thin, but it also sliced through 1"+ woody privet hedge trunks without "chopping".

It is extremely light, sharp, and quick. The handle is great, but I want to hand shape the area around the pommel to suit me.

Did they say something about it being discontinued? Is that for cold weather or just rain?

the copper ore and el capitan khaki are being discontinued i believe (websites state it as 2014 colors and there are new shades of green ones for 2015).

these are just a rain shell but i wear it over my winter jacket or sweater...even when there's zero chance of rain for example i'd wear it over my down jacket to protect it from burn holes if i'm near a camp fire.

Where did you get this knife? It's interesting to me.

I found it at a gun show $25.

Back in the late 90s Cold Steel launched a Carbon V line of four Green River style late era trade knives. The two Red River branded knives were skinners, and the two Hudson Bay branded ones were butchers. The venture was an abysmal failure and these knife lines were soon liquidated. I bought 5 of the 8" Butcher pattern for $5 each from a distributor and gave 4 of them as gifts. These knives pop up on fleabay from time to time and go for $50 + -

This is my $5 CS an 8" Hudson Bay butcher that has been a go to camp blade since I got it.

rip adidas superstar...i've worn these same style shoes since high school to college until now - literally, everyday my entire college i wore the same style shoes. wore a hole on my gazillionth pair and stopped-by to grab a fresh one and they're now charging $70+ for one? they seem to wear out faster than i remember too :( i still remember when they were in the $40'sh range.

Picked up a new water bottle at REI the other day. Vapur brand, .7 liter. It has a nice snap cap to drink from, and a carabiner type belt hanger. $7.95 It is flexible, and can be rolled up when not in use. Triple walls, and you can freeze it.

Mannlicher,

How rugged are they?
Overall reviews of folding bottles report that have a tendancy to leak

Thanks

Swear by these things!

Really tough, plus you can bring them on planes, not filled of course, but folds flat and compact. I love that they stand upright when 1/4 full and the carabiner. Pretty nice addition to a thermos or canteen.

Superstars are still the best sneakers for the buck IMO. I can wear out regular or even pricey sneakers in few summers, where superstars can take five or more. But I don't know, I haven't gotten new ones lately.
