Those zippos look really nice

I have given up on Zippos
they dry out too soon
When ever I want to use them they are dry, and that is even with them sealed with a bike inner tube to stop evaporation

I carry a zippo daily. I don't smoke, but it's a "nice to have" item. I do find that they evaporate rather quickly, but it's part of their design. Zippos were meant to be used frequently, so the evaporation issue would be moot. For my backpack and "survival" kit, I keep a few BIC's.

Best more setup ever!
Love it.

Thanks for the compliment!

I used to keep a Zippo in my glovebox for emergencies until I realized it would completely evaporate in just a month! Then I discovered the Peanut Lighter from Countycomm and those things are amazing, no evaporation at all.

Can't forget gold old fashioned storm matches. My psk has a lmf army fire steel , a bic and 25 storm proof matches for fire in it.

thanks. i keep mine in a 3"x5" ziplock and so far with daily startups (~15 flames with ~5 secs each time just playing around) it lasts for about 2 weeks before it completely dries...just something satisfying playing with it that i don't get with a bic...strangely enough i don't flick my folding knives open multiple times a day though like a lot of people do.

...a bic is still my go to backup to a firesteel though...these zippos are strictly for playing around out of the woods :)

For the Zippo I suggest getting a Thunderbird insert. It basically turns the Zippo into a Bic so it won't dry out.

...damn zippo made me buy another junglas so i have a matching logo on a knife :o

Just received my Katabatic Sawatch to complement my Enlightened Equipment Revelation X. Will post pics when it's not just laying on my bedroom floor...that's no fun. But damn I'm stoked.

Wow it's been a loooong time since I posed in W&SS, or even BF in general....

That's a serious quilt man! Nice pick up. looking forward to pictures. What temp rating do you have on the EE Revelation?

Thanks! The EE is 30*F + standard overstuff. I can push it with puffy and other clothing, but this Sawatch (and eventual downmat) should allow me to cover more of the year for 8 oz more. It's also the 850fp hydrophobic down which I'm hoping will retain loft better with high humidity conditions (coastal) or in-bag condensation (cold). Maybe dry faster or wet less if ever gets exposed to liquid water. Figured I'd give it a try, see if it works for me -- seems like folks have concerns about either the water-resistant 850 or the "normal" 900fp anyway.

Thanks for sharing man. And please keep us posted on your thoughts on the hydrophobic down...I'm really on the edge on it...people seem to be all about it or the opposite.

Will do. I form many of my opinions empirically when data is scarce... so I figured the only way to know at this point is to jump in. I really like the idea of it. OwenM has got a Palisade in hydrophobic down as well, and that guy probably has at least a hundred or so nights out with it by now, so I'm sure he could share some real world use as well.

Innit, but that makes a fine entrance. Good to see ya.

Good to see you too bud :) Maybe I'll get back around to the outdoor pic thread at some point, that was always my favorite spot on the forum...
