Post Up Your NEW Gear ...

Got an Olicamp Vector pot and Olicamp XTS stove combo. Picked up the Olicamp Aluminum Space Saver Mug last year. The setup is my new mess kit in my Backpacking kit. Specs say that you should be able to bring 16oz of water to boil in about 2 minutes on high. They weren't kidding. This new pot gets hot quick!

patagonia ascentionist 25l - been reading good things about it from mtwarden.

...going to compare it to the gossamer gear minimalist to see which one i like better as my winter day pack.

I think you'll like that Ascentionist for winter duty, it's a pretty rugged pack for it's lightweight, also easy to lash gear on (snowshoes and the like). It also carries nicely with up to 20 lbs
 
i like the ascentionist 25l enough that i decided to give the 35l and 45l a go too. the 45l's beefy waist belt is definitely built to carry a load/hiking but i'm not sure where the 35l fits into my rotation - maybe as an edc/laptop hauler since i just sold my osprey kestrel 28 to a friend.

took it hiking last weekend and i like it so far...definitely looking forward to winter - it seems like the just right amount of space.
 
I find I use my 35l more often as my winter day pack- I'm often carrying snowshoes on the pack part of the trip; I also carry more gear in the winter for day trips- bivy, 3/4 down bag, big puffy, more clothing, something to melt snow; the 25l was just too cramped to carry this all- also the 35l has a small frame so the additional bulk/weight is easier to carry

I think the 35l could also easily accommodate an overnight or two for a fast/light trip in "summer" weather

...and 18 year old at that :) I drink all mine at room temp undiluted, but to each their own. I bet it still tastes like a moss camp fire. I need to grab a bottle for the weekend!

Hey what's up Crufflers I recognize you from Calguns. Nice sharpener. I actually got the Ken Onion version (because of the wider belts and adjustable angle guide) a few months ago and am extremely happy with it. Gets my knives just as sharp as my stones but in way less time. I think you'll like it a lot.

Thanks. Yeah I researched it and checked out the Onion model too. I decided to try out the standard model for the $65 shipped or whatever it was. Great deal. I heard there can be some issues with the adjustments and guide on the Onion model so I figured for me just keep it simple with the fixed guides. I can always freehand it too, the bigger motor and wide belts are a big plus for sure.

If you have the Standard, the manufacturer will ship you a Onion model for $100 I hear, so someday I might end up with both, but I'm having fun with this one for now. It works great so far.
