Earlier this month my oldest daughter gave me a MiiR Growler. Keeps hot hot for at least 12 hours and cold cold for at least 24 hours and also keeps beer from getting flat. Double walled 18/8 medical/food grade stainless, but It's in the cap (and the price) that the MiiR truly beats its competition --- a swing lock sealing cap akin to German resealable beer bottles.

Just added to my Amazon wish list for my next purchase, have my interest perked. Keep us updated to your results but Im liikely to snag the 64 oz for my X on camping trips. Thanks for the spending the $54 for me.....
 
In February a coworker was in a telephone conversation with a buddy of mine in Kuwait. I discovered my buddy saw Chris Reeve Knives 5.5" Green Beret fixed blades for $31 at the Zone 6 PX. Since there was a zero missing on the price tag, I told my coworker to tell my buddy to go back ASAP before they were gone and pick up one for me. Got an email shortly afterwards from my buddy telling me which wall locker my knife was in so I could get it when I passed through Kuwait on the way to Afghanistan earlier this month. I didn't make it to Kuwait and instead went through Dubai. That coworker from the earlier phone conversation did though. Today he returned from Kuwait and Iraq, and brought my knife back with him. Now I need to decide what to do with it. Think I'll use it as trading material.

It was a gift. Too heavy for me to carry afield. Truthfully, a Stanley thermos is all I need in my car.

REI had them reduced but what held me back is how do you clean them?

With soap and hot water. Seriously.
 
To clean nasty insulated bottles, thermal coffee mugs, tea pots, etc, I use liquid dishwasher detergent. A little splash is plenty, and boiling water. Close it up, shake/stir/agitate, and let it sit. When you get back to it, some time later, just rinse it out with water. The inside will be like new. A Growler is just an insulated bottle with a different lid...

Some where in my addled brain, I seem to remember reading that denture tablets for a stained/grungy thermos.. Or... Was it a dream??!!:confused: John :thumbup:

You can get special bottle brushes from home brew suppliers, they are handy for cleaning funky bottles

Sure can! But, in this case, I've found that nothing beats chemical cleaning. The oils that coffee and tea leave behind are rather resistant to scrubbing. Once they go rancid, there will never be another good cup poured. Until, that is, the oils are removed. While growlers are not typically subjected to coffee or tea, clean is clean, regardless of what is going into the container.
