James,

I agree: I've beaten the heck out of a Master Hunter on everything from hogs to elk. It will take a lot of pounding through bone, prying, etc. It even does a reasonable job at camp chores. Too bad CS isn't still offering it in Carbon V.:(

Ok, here it goes...

This Mora was just a carbon blade that I got from RescueRiley. I used the blade to make the handle!

No kiddin! I have an old Trailmaster in "Carbon V" (most likely 0170-6) that just plain kicks a$$, and a Marble's of the same steel, made around the same time in the Camillus plant... they are honestly the three best factory blades I've gotten my hands on. I'm a 1095 fan from way back, but 0170-6 kicks 1095's butt, hands-down. The "new" 1095 Cro-Van as offered by Ka-Bar for the "new" Becker line is interesting; I have a Necker on order for testing.

I heard CS had some MH's and TM's made in SK-5 which is sort of similar, but I haven't found anyplace with either one in stock... glad I got mine when I did.

This is a new one for me..didn't really have anything in mind so I left it all up to Barry H (forum name ) to do it all for me..came out great and couldn't have asked for more.
Barry took a blank blade by Shing not only made the contoured dark green G10 scales but also finger notched and ceramic bead blasted the blade and scales.

No problem man, thank you for posting that pic!!! Ive been thinking about doing a similar mod to my kabar but was afraid it would look crazy convexed and missing the back gaurd. That gave me a much better vision of what I might have in mind!;)

Two modded Grohmann knives: A No. 4 Survival with padauk handle, black spacers, and brass pins, and a no. 1 Flat Grind with chechen hadle, black spacers, and brass pins. Both are users, through and through. The No. 4 originally had rosewood handles, but they were looking a bit rough after a few years of heavy use. With the No. 1, I wanted a handle that filled the palm a bit more than the stock model does.

Here's a modded CS Trail Hawk:

Busse Fusion Battle Mistress that has some handle material chopped off, it's now blade heavy and crazy sharp

Wow, you guys all do great work. The most I ever done was to sand off the finish on my RC-3 blade.

Doc

XMP,

Those blades look really nice! How did you get them so shiny? Did you polish them?

The blades are handed sanded. Starting with about 400 grit and working up to 1000. They're pretty easy to touch up with the 1000 grit or to put a patina on at that point.

Fonly, I really like the look of the Kabar without the top guard. It reminds me of a Bark River Boone or Teddy Hunter (at 1/3 the price). I've got to try that!
