Post You Ratmandu Pics!

Here's the only Ratmandu I have left because I sold them all. It's the Prototype version. Very nice knife. As much as I like it though, as a survival knife...it doesn't really stack up to the Fallkniven A1 in my opinion. Same blade length but I get a 1/2 inch more cutting edge on the A1 due to the RMD's finger choil (which I'm perfectly fine with). My biggest gripe though is with the RMD's handle...the black paper scales are way too slick for real-world use so I had to wrap them with some camo tape. The grippyness of the Fallkniven's handle however are second to none. A few more little things like the "melted" spine of the RMD making it useless to strike a spark from a ferro rod compared to the squared off spine of the A1 which throws sparks like no other has kept the RMD at home and the A1 on my hip on most of my excursions. Still think its a great knife though, and I absolutely love the ergonomics of it. I just have yet to find a better thought out survival knife than the Fallkniven. Anyway, sorry for the long post, on with the photos....

I agree the paper scales are pretty slick. You should try the canvas micarta. Excellent grip.

Glad I read this. I am waiting on a Ratmandu with tan micarta scales; I am considering getting another Swamp Rat, but was thinking getting black paper micarta on the next one. Hearing this, I'll stick with canvas.

As for the spine, I'm not much for using the spine or edge of any knife to strike a ferro rod. The scraper that comes with the Army or Scout LMF works better than any knife blade I've found, and doesn't take up that much more space. HOWEVER, if I decided I must use the spine of a knife, I'd just take my favorite knife and a dremel and put a spot on the spine to strike the rod. That's a big IF, though. I still prefer the supplied scraper. But, to each his own. Not criticizing, just my 2 cents.

BTW, I have an A1 also. Along with an S1 and two H1's. Guess which is my favorite. ;) BUT, I will agree that all three do a decent job of striking a ferro rod. Just in my case, not as good as the supplied scraper.

Dude I am waiting on those two exact knives! please tell me the Ratmandu is not a black on black canvas lol
 
I hope to post a picture in a few days - my first is on the way! Is it bad that I already worry that I may need another? And this is not just based on Thrill's last post...
