Okay some of you folks didn't plan right and you are like me. Sitting at home on a fine, sunny labor day weekend. Hell, my wife even corralled me into housework for most of the morning  So after I clean a mess, its time to make a mess.

Get out there in your backyard, grab a chopper and start chopping! Don't forget to take pictures!

Synopsis - the original Ranger RD-9 bites with authority and outchops the koyote but were are only talking 3 or 4 chops behind. The koyote has a more comfortable handle and I like batoning with it better. Koyote is lighter (1/8" thick steel and wood handle) compared to the Ranger (1/4" thick + heavy mircata grips). The Ranger is indestructuable, the koyote can't be pryed. If I wanted a big knife in the field the koyote is coming with me. If I want to tackle on some knotty hellish wood, the RD-9 or Scrapyard SOD is going to be used.

I hope to head out camping in a few hours. Will be bringing a few blades with me to do some chopping and hopefully take some action shots. If we go I'll post some pictures. Can't wait to try out my Tramontina 14" Bolo and it's new sheath I just finished.

BTW Those are some nice pictures. Can't wait to see everyone elses.

I actually don't have many decent pictures of my choppers doing much chopping, but here are a few...

Cold Steel LTC kukri (which handily outchops many far more expensive choppers!)

The CS kukri is one of the most effective choppers I own. It's not a fantastic all-around camp knife, but it can chop like nobody's business, especially considering how light it is. I'm not a big fan of CS these days, but they have definitely hit a few home runs in the past.

Hi all,

Great thread kgd.

Here are my 2 and more are being made up for all my kits LOL
The top knife is a Warthorn and the bottome is a One Zero.

Just for fun I wanted to see what the 12" with 3/16" blade against my 10" 5/32" thick blade and 20 chops per knife for the cuts.

Here is a shot of chopping....ok splitting, some fire wood with the new Fiskar splitting axe I bought on Sun. After about 20 pieces of wood there is some edge chipping! But that's OK, I'll just thow it on the grinder and give it a nice convex edge:thumbup: I'm surprised how well it splits, especially for how light it is.

Unfortunately, what with being in college I don't have a lot of land around me to get out and go to town with my machetes (my usual choppers) but if I can find a place I'll post pics of those too. :)

I went camping Late Saturday evening and did a bunch of chopping with my BK9 (forgot to pack my 14" Bolo :o) but it was so dark no pictures would have turned out. I'll see if I can get pictures this weekend on my next trip.

BTW It's nice to see the knives and tools used. I get the erge to go out and chop stuff every time I read this thread.
