If that black Lum was a plain edge I would offer you a ridiculous amount of money for it.

Very nice group you have there.

What is it that you guys like about tanto blades? I've never really understood them but went ahead and bought a ZT 0700 because I wanted to try out a ZT and the 0700 was so cheap. I've got a CRKT Ultima that is a tanto and I just don't get the appeal.

I guess the biggest appeal would be the reinforced tip. As far as traditional tanto blades, like the CRKT Heiho, the appeal would be in the aesthetic design.

EDIT; Let's face it, that Benchmade Vex is ugly as hell. I love it, but damn what a weird looking blade. Nice rounded spine though.

I don't find them that useful, but they are cool looking.

My collection would be incomplete without at least one tanto. It works fine for some tasks but I think it's forte is self defense. I don't carry a knife for SD though.

I only have a tanto Mini Griptilian. I find the yokote handy for opening boxes. Just use that to make a shallow cut. I though for the longest time that they had no edc practicality. Honesty I don't any real edc tasks they are unable to handle.

Traditional curved tantos are actually very useful. Think of them as drop points with a super strong tip.

Oh wow, you guys really put some good knives up to view!

I'm falling asleep at the computer now, can't wait to check these out tomorrow night! Awesome

I bought this Cold Steel GI Tanto to play with, mostly because it is very cheap and because I've seen vids showing it to be very tough:

I bought this Cold Steel also because it was very cheap. I had visions of keeping it on my garage workbench as a utility knife:

I bought this Spyderco some years back because I thought it was very classy looking:

I bought this older CRKT again to play with and determine how tough it was. I found that the lock is a bit weak so I haven't done any serious stabbing tests with it yet.

I have 2 newer tanto's that I don't have photos of yet. One is a Kershaw Zing. It is smaller than what I like but I thought I could keep it around the house for utility work, maybe even carry it in a pocket as a second knife for times when I don't want to use my larger primary folder.

My second newer tanto is a Benchmade 760. I bought it to use in my EDC rotation, and also to carry as a hard use knife on weekends when I might need something like that. I bought it used and it came a bit dull, and I found that the bevels were uneven and larger than 40 degrees inclusive so I reprofiled it to 20 degrees per side.

I see tantos that I like and others that visually I don't like. Some of the ones I've pictured seem to have strong tips which is one reason to go with a tanto. On ethat I've seen that I really like is the Microtech SOCOM Elite. I would be very tempted to buy one if I find one at a price I can afford.
