Post your ONE survival hint here....

Always carry a fire starting method (mine is a firesteel and some fatwood) and some rope. They take almost no space and can really help tons.

Charlie

I agree here, but would like to add that one should always have at least two firestarters.I carry at least three all the time.Water-proof matches, magnesium firesteel, zippo or a bic
+1 on the rope(+paracord)

As for my own input...Do as much reading up about the area/terrain you'll be suriving in,before you go.Climate, weather conditions, wild life, fresh water sources, edible, poisonous & healing plants, just a few off the top of my head.

never get in a bush plane without a sleeping bag and tarp, never ever.

your sleeping bag is your survival capsule, never leave it behind.

Read Adrift by Steven Callahan. If your spirits start to sag, remember it. Remember you're on land already. And get a grip.

You can magnetize the tweezers in your swiss army knife to use as a crude compass. They are made of stainless steel, but they will take a polarization after 50 strokes of a magnet. Then you can hang it up with a piece of thread or place it on a leaf in a small pool of water. You can use the magnet in a car or home speaker (prefer'ly woofer) to magnetize your tweezers or other shard of magnetizable metal. "Proper prior planning..."
