I finished the scales on my ZDP-189 Mule last weekend. Decided to experiment a little bit - and found some hunter orange Corian from an online dealer. This stuff is normally used for countertops and sinks, and works well with standard tools. It cuts, files, drills, and sands a lot like paper micarta. However, this is a solid resin with no fibrous layers like G10 or micarta. On the positive side, you can get a pair of bright orange scales without having to deal with the "itchiness" of working with fiberglass fragements off G10 scales. Corian does scratch somewhat easily, but overall is pretty tough stuff. It is also a little translucent, which gives it a nice "glow" when the sun hits it from behind. Not sure I'll use this material a lot, but I'm glad I gave it a shot.

My first Mule, Elmax in Tambotie (the South African version of Cocobolo).
This is my Mule in CTS B75P. The handles are butterscotch paper micarta with yellow fiber spacers and micarta pins, all held together with two-ton epoxy.
There are some features I can describe as halos around the holes. The micarta was 3/8", a bit thick, so I ground some away and the halos are not as noticeable, and they smoothed out nicely.
The outside color of the micarta was nothing like the color that resulted when ground, and the website stated as much, but I would've preferred to use something else. But, I used what I had and it came out all right.
I used the fiber spacers because it seems that the sides of the handle are not quite flat. My M390 Mule was the same way, and it left gaps at the front of the handle. I took that one apart to live another day. With this one, I epoxied the fiber spacers and handles on and clamped them down very tightly once the micarta pins were through, hoping that the fiber would essentially fill-in any gap.

And then I made some Ironwood scales for my 9Cr18Mo Mule, also with mosaic pins:
I always said that Sriracha sauce was the best condiment to serve with Mule.

Here is the Elmax mule I had sent out to Blackcatt. He did a great job with the black g10 and they kydex sheath.
Love this one. I just got my ELMAX, who made these scales/sheath?
