That's interesting. Pappy and I talk sometimes and I have the feeling he and I could roam over some prarrie or desert together for quite a while. There is a look to a man's eyes who has been in death situations, and a look to a man's eyes who has seen a lot of desert. It's hard to explain, but I've got the desert look. Well, some of my detractors and loved ones will contend I had that look of incipient psychosis before I ever saw the desert, but they lie. The Sparrow told me so.
You, on the other hand, Sarge, look like I imagined you. Most people think capable men will look like Arnold or Segal in their prime. Actually, most capable men look underscored but share a solid build. It is only when you try to move one of them you suddenly realize what you have ahold of. That's when you say, "excuse me."
Speaking of builds, there are men disproportionately strong to whatever their build. I knew a 135lb 5' 11" kid who was STRONG. And never underestimate the fat man. How many have I seen one cover a room's distance in a lightening twink and grab someone or something with iron fury?
I'll never forget the guy who was pinned to the floor of the psych unit with five staff, two of which were in excess of 270 pounds, suddenly start to RISE, carrying all of us with him.
But these pictures are great. I am surprised. You know what I REALLY thought; human beings all. Even the tougher ones. All individuals.
There isn't one I haven't liked the look of, like you could talk to that stranger in a crowd. What a gifted place.
