Three forum members including myself, made a purchase last Thursday 6/24 from JCRiley (John Riley <jcriley627@gmail.com>). He was responsive up until we made the payment. He promised to send it out by Friday, but so far no responses from repeated PM and Emails. Three of us buyers all thought he was trust worthy based his initial responsiveness and a few past positive ratings, so went for the PP Friends/Family option. We are attempting to locate him, as he is in the area around Covington and Mansfield, Georgia.

Any assistance from law enforcement agents would be greatly appreciated. We need to at least give him a call, giving him the benefit of the doubt, where something may have happened to him. But from what we know, he logged on BF just last evening, which leads us to believe he is intentionally ignoring our requests for status and also has not shipped out the packages.

Please advise, thanks!

I sure hope he is trustworthy but you three should have known better.

I'm one of the members netaddict is speaking about. I sent payment to JCRiley the 25th of June and haven't received anything yet. I was told it would be shipped out that Saturday when he could get a ride given he has no license. As netaddict stated, it is clear that this member is intentionally not replying or opening our messages because he knows what he did is wrong.

I agree, we should have known better. Just goes to show you how low people can go to get what they need. Lesson learned.

Did he ask for the gift option in your pm or emails? In the sales thread it was stated that the goods method was preferred.

I hope everything works out for you guys!

make sure you keep all correspondence with this jcriley. paypal can't help you cause you gifted your payment (don't scam pp to save a few bucks). the law is on your side if you have the proper evidence that he scammed you. good luck

EDITED OUT SINCE THEY HAVE MADE CONTACT

BTW I dont know if this is against the rules to post that link with the info, but I figured it was public info available to anyone who Googles his name. If its against the rules i will edit this post to omit the link.

Yes thank you guys, lessons learned for us. Unless I deal with someone I've worked with extensively in the past, it's PP Goods from here on out. In the mean time, I do want to track down this person, more people have had negative experience from what I can tell.

There were so many red flags, you gotta do your homework.

19 years old, DUI, prior offenses, an irresponsible pattern

This kid is a shady person that has money belonging to the three of you.

Write it off, lick your wounds, learn a lesson and drive on.

Great Paypal gift, huh?

We made contact and are in the process of getting it sorted out. Thanks BF, awesome members. Will post update, please withhold your negative comments.

I hope you will understand that threads like this will always generate negative comments. Until the posts about possible resolution there was not much positive to write about.

No more negatives from me unless it turns out all you got from Mr. Riley was lip service.

The importance of threads like this is not the outcome....

(I am not trying to be rude here, simply trying to make a point)

I am not sure how many threads like this it's going to take for people to stop using the "Family and Friends" PP option.

If you are sending money to someone that is not a member of your FAMILY or a good FRIEND the only thing you should do is learn from it and move on......

Why not put $500 cash in an envelope and see if it makes it?

Trust a name on a screen to save a 3% fee.

That! Nothing for sale on this forum meets this criteria "get what they need". Think first, act later.

Negative comments? Like you stupidly gave some kid your money? Sorry guys, nothing actually happened here except you gave someone your money. And no, the law is not on your side. First question will be, what did you PAY for. Answer: nothing, it was a gift by definition of the financial institution. You would be extremely lucky to get out of this with anything.

"Unless I deal with someone I've worked with extensively in the past, it's PP Goods from here on out" Glad to see you learn something  But hey, here's a crazy thought, If you are buying something why not always use paypal goods rather than screw paypal out of the money you agreed to pay them when you signed up?

JR is right. The outcome of this realy does not matter to the community here. What is important is that hopefully this thread and the comments by longtime experienced members will serve as a warning to other newbies to not do what you guys did. Always use paypal the way it is intended. If you buy something, use the buying option! Common sense really...
