Pounding a Custom knife into submission!

P.S. The Cold Steel "Proof" video is laughable -- search this forum and you'll find all kinds of sarcasm about it. Thompson demonstrates "feats" that any knife can do while saying things like, "It can penetrate a car hood! It can even penetrate a sheet of paper!!! Look -- it went all the way through the entire thickness of the paper -- and the knife isn't damaged at all!!!" That wouldn't sell knives if as many people had tried piercing sheet metal as have tried piercing paper. :)

Thanks for the explaination, Cougar.

I have read some negative opinions of Cold Steel's advertising on these forums, with some considering it to be "hype". When I heard the narrator on the CS video state that their knives were better than any other knives, production or custom, that they know of, I had to raise an eyebrow. Maybe Cold Steel employees are forbidden to buy or try out other brands. I think CS knives are very good, and Cold Steel is my favorite production company, due to their combination of very good knives and a wide selection. However, I am sure there are many knives, especially custom knives, that are better.

Thanks to those of you who add positive and constructive comments.
I am sure I will re-invent the wheel several more times in my knifemaking endevors. However I will continue to try new things and do some more test poundings or worse. This is the best way I know of to see what my blades will do.

My guess would be that since some type of sharp pointy object has been around since the dawn of man, there isn't much that hasn't been tried already. My re-invention was just public.

At least my failures will teach me what to change for the next blade. That way I can say with confidence what my knives will do!

Thanks to all!
