Sorry, these aren't quite the scenery that highdesertwalker has, but I thought I would continue my series on spring progression in my area.

Today's walk was in Ojibway prairie which seems a bit behind the hardwood forest in terms of greenery..

Much of the prairie still looks like this at the moment:

However, if you look closely you can see a bit of green popping up

Next to a larger drainage ditch, the vegetation is a bit more lush...

Nice kgd. We don't always get enough green out where I live, so we rely other folks in WSS to provide us with a fix. :D I love that tunnel like path through a dense stand of saplings.

Nice pics! You have a nice area to roam and enjoy. Looks like your dog is having fun too.

Max had a blast, but Now I'm finding ticks all around the living room...

Nice pictures. The grasslands and prairie around Nebraska are starting to wake up, but last Friday a snowstorm set us back a bit. Why on earth is it still snowing on April 25?

Great pics! It's been a long time since i've been through Ojibway park, and was just thinking about how it'd be nice to take the dog through there sometime real soon!

WHen I get in there I'll be sure to take some pics as well!

Definitely worth taking the dog out there Grimspoon. If you get in early you can catch a couple of nice herds of deer.

Nice to see another neighbhor on the forums. I live in LaSalle not much more than a km from the park.

I'm also in LaSalle, I used to have a pretty nice stretch of wooded area right across the road from my house, but most of it's been taken down and replaced by subdivisions and the LaSalle public school...

A shame really, I have great childhood memories of getting lost in bush there, but now when I hike thru the subdivisions to the small patch of wooded area that's left, it just makes me feel depressed.

The dog doesn't know any better though, and we'll both take what we can get!

Lasalle?! No wonder your back yard is progressing at the same rate as mine. As the crow flies, I'm only 10 miles (16km) from you, give or take a mile. Right across the river.

Thanks for the pics.

No kidding! We had snow today in Minnesota. It was 41 at 3pm:mad:

You can see in the highlighted area a rough estimation of how much bush there used to be, ripe with trails - and what little remains.

Even in it's former glory it wasn't much. What's left is almost pitiful!

Grimspoon - I moved around some in my life but have returned back to this area since 2002. If we are about the same age, and I suspect not too far off, the two of us probably new each other as grade school chumbs. Between age 6 and 13 years of age I lived on 606 Laurier Drive and attended good old Sacred Heart School! I used to play in the same woods all the time. In fact, I used to walk through them on my way to grade school everyday! I remember playing in those woods often. I used to hand around Marentette drain - biggest snails around :) We should have coffee some time.

Yeah same to you Rupestris, but I'll need to meet you by boat! Actually, I'm over that side of the river quite often doing my research on that beautific river we share together. I hope you are following the walleye run - BECAUSE IT IS ON NOW!

That's funny, small world! I actually went to Prince Andrew Public School, and graduated from Sandwich Secondary in 2000, making me 26 years old.

I didn't know too many kids from the Catholic school board tho...

Well, we do have 12 years between us (I'm the senior here). I work as a prof at the U. in town. We should chat some time as local knife nuts! Feel free to e-mail me as per my profile...

You probably already know that Normark is from the area. We also have another excellent knife maker in LaSalle by the name of Jeff Diotte. I have one of his knives purchased at the knife show held at Holiday Inn last Nov. Take care.

It's google maps, great too for scoping out potential areas to explore in your area!

You'd be surprised what you might see...

Edit:

kgd,

I don't post too much outside the Busse forums, so I'm almost totally unaware of other members in the community besides you (now), who are from the Windsor area.

I (was) working at R.C. Tool & Die over by Devonsire Mall, but a bunch of us got laid off so now I'm exploring alternative work options. Kinda crappy, but that's the nature of Windsor atm.

My heart goes out to you friend. This town is under some tough economic times at the moment.

Thanks, but I'm not in any financial trouble or about to go homeless anytime soon, it wasn't my dream job (I actually graduated from St. Clair college for HVAC) and only stumbled upon tool & die by some freak accident. I didn't lose any sleep over that job, that's for sure. :p:p:p

You're right about the tough times ahead for Windsor though, I'm constantly thinking about leaving the area. Whats worse is I have the same dream as a lot of guys on this forum and would love to buy a nice wooded acreage out in the middle of nowhere and get away from all the BS!

As that small wooded area by my house slowly transforms into subdivisons with the endless barking dogs and screaming kids, that dream of retreating seems more and more attractive! ;)

Well my advice is that you won't find much retreat in S. Ontario. You can still buy acreage out past Sault St. Marie for reasonable sums provided you don't get too picky about lake front. My wife and I looked at our opitons for picking up some small acreage between Kingston and Perth, but we just couldn't swing it financially. The bugger of it all is that our good friends own the neighbhoring lot. We just have to save our resources before doing something like that. With a family of four saving money isn't always easy.

I'd love to see the F&F of those Busse blades that get so much airplay on these forums!
